Have you ever tried welding one on? I wired welded a couple of them and what ever they are made of broke right back off, I then brazed them on and that held but did not like that ideal of brass instead of steel!

I believe they are malleable iron... and have TIG welded several sets together using stainless steel filler rod with no complaints so far
