I have never seen a car radio made like that. Zenith made top-quality stuff. I'm guessing early 1930's, maybe earlier. I would NOT throw it away. There is interest in antique radios, and there are some antique radio collector/seller sites.

Looks like it was made to clamp onto a steering column....maybe an accessory for an early truck. I'd certainly try one of the antique radio forums.
