Martin-Parry wood project

Post by Dropacent » Tue Jun 01, 2021 11:19 am

Before I found our original Martin-Parry station wagon, I was building a body myself. The joinery is all patterned off an original M-P body, so it has all the great details such as blind mortise and tenon joints. I had gotten as far as the front panel and windshield, the roof, and the sub structure. All done in the appropriate woods, this will make a great start on a station wagon, canopy delivery or many other MP models. The roof can easily be cut down into pickup truck size. Check out the great website Ben Purkey has on the interweb for ideas. Martin-Parry.com. I also have enough 8/4 ash wood for all the rest of the body structure. I’m thinking $500 for what you see, which is what I have just in the the 8/4 ash. Pics are of it hanging here and some in the dark corner, so I’d be glad to get better views to anyone interested. A very worthwhile project for someone, maybe a father/son or grandfather/ grandson project. I also have a big pile of the ironwork, that I’d be willing to sell also. Tmorsher@icloud.com if anything is tugging on you, thanks! I can deliver to the Ohio jamboree, the HCCA meet in Hickory Corners, drop off at Enjine Joe Bells place, or store until arrangements are made.

I sent you an email...
Tim,
I am very interested in your project.

I have a MP bed that someone cut the top off in the past. I would love to use what you did to make it complete. The issue is getting it to California!

Are there any build plans available for the Express body with or without roof.

This has been spoken for, Dean, if you talk nice to the new owner, this would be a great time to gather dimensions for these bodies. If plans are made, it would help making authentic body’s.

Plans would be useful for my long-term M-P project too! Mine was "complete when parked" but then it got moved a few times and the weather did a number on LOTS of it. No photos right now, but it is a small pile of wood & metal in a corner of the shed. I tend to like "lost causes" Was a local vegetable truck at one time.

That’s great, David. Dallas Landers has inspired us all on lost causes. Antique vehicles are one of the very few antiques that do not lose a lot of value by replacing the wood. I’ve always gone out of the way to keep as much original as possible, but I’m not normal and outa my mind.

Guys,
I will help any way I can. I will try to document the parts and make some drawings. My cad skills are basic or above, but I have a couple buddies that can take my napkin sketches and crank a drawing out in minutes. Between these parts, Dallas, and some questions of Tim, This should be a nice undertaking. Having a sawmill helps also.

I have a top section and windshield/ cowl section much like Tims photos show. I think it may have been patterened from Tims. I got it from Engine Joe. C'mon guys, Tim and I cant be the only crazy's out there. I have to admit that driving around in a total wood bodied truck is fun and usefull.

Dallas, that pic is just too cool (although I'll bet it was pretty warm that day).

So close to doing exactly what old advertising shows with my 23 touring. My wife and I have a blackberry farm and can set up at a local farmers market 4 miles away, this would be perfect.
