Re: 24-27 front commercial fenders fs
BTW, there is no such thing as a "Commercial fender" they are just late '25 on fenders. Yes, they were also used on some '26-27 trucks even after the '26-27 improved car fenders were in use, which MAY be why the vendors classified them as "commercial".

I am respectfully disagreeing with you as I have an original 1924 TT my Gramps purchased new in Seattle - it surely has "commercial" front fenders !

Steve
take a quick read here and see why David claims "no commercial fenders": http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/50 ... 1444168710
I think this fully aligns with your TT with family history...

My Gramps purchased this TT new in the early spring of 1924 - it has a 12/23 engine number, the smaller rear window - early '24 only as documented in the Ford glass book and both fender's single beads are exposed as there are no splash shield - plain as day !

Re: 24-27 front commercial fenders fs
The problem with this debate goes back to the fact that until the cyclopedia was published…the later 25’s at car shows were pilloried for having bead under time and time again by the experts. My April of 25 had bead under and I finally gave in and picked up a fully restored set of bead out with the bat ear in the front while at Hersey one year. Got them changed only to find out a year later that Bruce had prevailed in his argument that bead under were on production 25’s. Fortunately, still had them and changed them back!
Not trying to be a troll…but gotta wonder how many folks did the same back in the late 70’s (change to bead out) but we’re unaware the Bruce had rendered a decision based on evidence other than hearsay?

Re: 24-27 front commercial fenders fs
"Bead out" came in both earlier versions (without the front valance blend) and later versions (WITH the front valance blend to the radiator). I own such a runabout with "bead out" and no front valance. They also have the "no washer" bump in the back to fit up to the running boards. If these are ONLY commercial fenders, they found their way onto an awful lot of cars. I've never seen an advertisement for commercial fenders...only for replacements with the bead out, and washer stampings...in both the earlier front style and later front (valance) style.
As far as "correctness" I own a '13 which was originally blue, but was restored by the previous owner in 1979 to be black "because everyone knows T's are only black", and I own a T runabout with rusty "commercial fenders" which I personally cut the original bolts off of to liberate them from the rusty frame and rusty running boards. These kinds of discussions tend to give me gas and I usually avoid them.

Re: 24-27 front commercial fenders fs
Steve,
Yes, your Gramp's TT has '25 fenders on it--but just because it is a TT does not mean the fenders are "Commercial" fenders, they are just production '25-on fenders. My May '25 runabout has them too. Now once the '26 "improved" cars went into production with the all-new fenders, these '25 fenders were continued to be used on the TT production, which is where I suspect the "commercial" designation originated by the replacement parts people, not by Ford itself. And then there are folks that don't like the looks of the bead disappearing under the apron, so "obviously" they must be the wrong fenders! More detailed research has proven that idea to be false. However getting the parts folks to change their long-held terminology is proving to be a difficult task!
BTW, those fenders do look nice!

Re: 24-27 front commercial fenders fs
How would a matched set of '25 fenders get on an early production 1924 TT ? There is no family history of any work done on the is rig other than mechanical - he drove it until 1958 !

Re: 24-27 front commercial fenders fs
I think everyone agrees that the term "Commercial Fender" is a designation assigned to one of the many variations of Model T front fenders. Even within that designation there are at least two variations. It should be of no surprise to anyone that any part that is on a Model T or TT, Today: may be correct to its year or the result of an assemble line variance (part consumption), dealer repair, customer modification, or previous owner modification. As a result there is a tendency to prove "as built" authenticity.

I am curious if there is any FORD ad or parts list that references this style of fender and what year/model they were intended for. Do original build sheets document what style fender was used? Without such documentation of their intended use, the term ""Commercial Fender" is limited to a style not an application of it.
