1913 Model T Roadster
I have for sale a 1913 Model T Roadster. The car was restored in the 1980's and was not driven much after that. It runs and drives great.
Recently I re ringed the .030 pistons and did a valve job on it. It does have a accessory outside oil pressure system that works on the fan belt.
The car is in nice condition. Engine # 323856 and body#380609. Asking price is $15,500. I am going to Hershey with the car and will be in spot

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
Round bottom door. 13 were square. I have one like it. Mine has 13 running gear but a 14 body. Mine was at a Ford dealer and never sold, they got it in the end of 13. That is why they called it a 13. Does your engine have threaded freeze plugs? What does rear cross member of frame look like?
By way nice car.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
The side doors on a 1913 are square, and extend all the way to the bottom of body. 1914 doors were smaller with rounded corners.

Dan Hatch. Yes it has threaded freeze plugs. Is it possible with a Aug 6 1913 build it could have the later body ?? What would you like to know about the frame ?

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
I have a first week of June 1913 Touring that has a ‘14 style body,’13 fenders, and threaded freeze plugs. The car has been in my family since the 1950’s and is a very untouched original car.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
Touring car bodies for 1913 were weak under the rear doors, and causing problems with the rear doors popping open on rough roads. Therefore Ford rushed the 1914 style into production, and began replacing the 1913 style with the 1914 style beginning about June of 1913. Ford also continued using the 1913 style touring bodies that had already been ordered, so both styles were in the production pipelines for a few months.
The runabouts, on the other hand, had no rear doors. Therefore no weakness under them, and no rush for the better and stronger style. I have never seen a definitive time when the 1914 runabouts began being produced at the factory, however I have read several times that it wasn't until about Fall of 1913. I would guess that they also had some crossover time when both styles were being used, however I suspect the crossover time was shorter for the runabouts than it was for the touring cars.
Engine block castings generally had longer crossover times than body styles did. This was because the factory continued to use molds and patterns as long as they continued to be viable, and replaced the older patterns and molds as they wore out. It is my understanding that some latter half 1913 blocks had the later Welch plugs, but I really don't know. I have two late calendar 1913 engines, both have threaded core plugs. One of them was an end of October casting.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
1914 model year began Aug. of 1913, we can only assume on Aug. 1. So yes, you could have what they call a "carry over" model. I have a similar situation with my '25/'26 carryover Fordor. Makes for interesting conversation if nothing else. We all know Henry didn't waste a thing during production year changes, let alone during the year type of changes. Your car also has a '14 Windshield, at least the arms are, but looks to be like the top folds inward typical to a '14. Another thing to "nit pick" if you want, is to check the front fender irons. '13s had the "all round" area down at the frame brackets, '14s started the type that are "V" shaped. Also, it's hard to see in the pics, but the front fenders also look to have that "bead" across the breadth of it, typical in the '14 model year. Also, the early '14s did not have a "bill" on the front of the front fender, but did later on in the year.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
Another difference between ‘13 and ‘14 Runabouts is the turtledeck lid, ‘13s have sharp corners, ‘14s have rounded corners. The pictures provided don’t really have a good view, but the lid corners appear to be rounded to me. The encyclopedia states that the ‘14 model year ran from August 1913 to January 1915. Personally, I would assume that any August 1913 build to be a ‘14 model, unless the car had identifying features that were more ‘13; i.e. squared doors, separate cover piece along the top of the door, squared deck lid, windshield that folds to the front. The length of the rear frame crossmember and reinforcements on the aluminum hogshead are also ways to tell ‘13s and ‘14s apart

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
It is interesting that the engine number 323,856 was built on Aug 6, 1913 whereas the block casting date is October 20-something...

Wayne, thank you for your always informative, rather than pick it apart information. There are many things about specific years and cross over parts that we just don't know.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
Probably re-powered. Not uncommon. When it comes to matching title numbers, who gives a hoot about the cast date being "off" from the "serial (or VIN) number"....that's all the title people worry about.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
With buyers premium, the car is currently at a higher price than the OP's original asking price, so no bargain to be had at this auction.
Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
A bunch of old cars
Sometimes they run.
Sometimes, they don't.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
Car just sold for $15,000 flat, exactly what the OP was asking for originally. But the new owner has to pay 10 percent buyers premium, so $16.500 for this car.

Re: 1913 Model T Roadster
Original pre-auction asking Price was $15,500 and likely could’ve negotiated for less. Post auction price $15,000+buyers premium+enclosed transport cost=about $18,500 total...and then there is the final sale price tax (add about $1,200 for New York State) for a total of approx $19,700.
I had serious interest in this car until I saw the auction buyers premium and that ended it for me.
Beautiful T though, and I hope the new owner is happy with it.
