Just got a text from an individual "Tyler Robert" offering to sell me an Allen HCCT for $450 shipped. Phone number (209) 235-6759. Provided several pictures which were from a recent EBAY listing where item sold. Wanted payment by PayPal and not by Cashiers Check. Determined this was likely a scam. Posted for information. Buyer beware! :)

Yes. That is the same ad he pulled the pictures he sent me. Not the same guy who listed it on EBAY though. Be careful. They're out there! :)

Would be interesting to know how you can check a coil for double sparking on this tester seeing that this tester doesn't seem to have a spark indicating ring fitted... or am I missing something?..
Or is it only for checking Spark plugs, Horns and Magneto coil rings...n.

It looks like it could be used to set the coil current , but could not be used for checking double sparks.

This is an Allen Rotating Spark HCCT.
The indicator is on the rotating crank wheel.
I believe it will indicate double sparking.

B-Z-B,
Could you please explain how the rotating spark set up works compered to the normal spark ring as fitted to the earlier HCCT. All I can see is the spark holder fitted on the HCCT shown in this thread.
Thanks...n.

The HV (high voltage) is passed across a slip ring to the rotating hand wheel.
It is sent up an insulated tube to the head that stands proud on the outer rim of the handwheel (see above photos).
The spark jumps from this to the handwheel which is at ground potential.
The HCCT Handbook shows this and all of the parts that make it up in great detail.

I got ripped off like that for $300 about 15 years ago and have not bought on E-nay since.

The guy claimed the sale fell through, after I realized the photos were the same, and said the other sale fell through.

E-bay had just bought PayPal and told me I should have used it, as they would have refunded my money if I had.

The Ebay listing appears legitimate. This individual contacted me by text and used the photos from the listing.

Mark, if the coil tester is for a collection of vintage test equipment, good luck in your pursuit. If the goal is to adjust Model T coils for optimal engine performance, you may wish to consider the ECCT coil tester. More information here: www.modeltecct.com
