Want to buy or borrow a rim spreader in NW Arkansas

Post by MWalker » Tue Oct 26, 2021 9:15 pm

My Model T buddy here in NW Arkansas needs to either buy or borrow a rim spreader to change some tires. He said he'd be glad to buy one, so he'd have it on down the road. He doesn't use the internet, so contact me at waterwalk999@gmail.com or 479-790-4229. Thanks.

Simple turnbuckles from Home Depot or Ace Hardware work pretty well also I have been told.

Mike, I hope you find the rim spreader. A word of caution on its use however. Being new to the world of split rims, I have several earlier T's, I used my split rim spreader to replace tires on a new purchase of a 1925. I made the mistake of cranking down on the spreader too far. Could have caused real damage but was able to return the rim to usable condition. I now just use the spreader to move the rim from its latched position. I find that is all it takes as normal tire irons will move the rim in enough to get the tire off and on without damaging the rim. Hope this helps if you are new to this task.

I have purchased two rim spreaders for two Model T buddies. Thank you everyone for your interest.
