Tim, I have seen spun brass cover like that and they look cheap and chintzy. Your alloy one looks much better made and of far better quality. Might it be a machined casting? It looks really substantial.

It is spun aluminum. I’ve seen them on cars over the years and also Tom Rootlieb has posted original pics of cars back in the day. People loved to dress the Lizzie !
