Re: FS 8 and 9 Tooth Pinion Gears
Hank, aren't those the repro gears that have the keyway cut in the wrong place? They are weaker because the corners of the keyway are too close to the area between the the teeth. Just a heads up. Take care, Dave

No, the ones you are referring I believe Dave had the key ways cut at the center of the valleys, these are cut in the centers of the gears peak.

Hi Henry, I would like to purchase two of your 8 tooth pinions. They would ship to Bismarck, IL. 61814. Could you give me a total with shipping and let me know what form of payment you prefer?
Thank you.

Re: FS 8 and 9 Tooth Pinion Gears
Hmmm, after a couple minutes of searching, every photo of that I could find of 9, 10, 11, and 12 tooth pinions, as well as the 2 loose stock Ford pinions in my shop, have the keyway centered on the valley rather than a tooth of the gear. To my eye, that puts the sharp corners of the keyway (stress risers) under the meat of the tooth, rather than at the thinner valley. But I’m not an expert and can easily be wrong...
Keep crankin’,

That's what I was thinking Eric. I think there was some discussion about that a while back on the old forum. That's what I was going on, but I am by no means an expert. Dave

I am know expert either, but I have never had a problem using these in 20 years, but I do know professional courtesy goes with those that are calling themselves “experts” private emails are accepted instead of bashing an others product on an open forum. Some just like to think and others insert a foot. Be respectable.

Hank, if you are referring to me, absolutely no disrespect was intended. I was just trying to address a potential problem. I'm sure Eric meant no disrespect either. I have never met you, but I have the utmost respect for you and your talents. I am sorry if I offended you, it wasn't intended. Dave

Re: FS 8 and 9 Tooth Pinion Gears
There was a batch of pinion gears brooched at the incorrect position a while back and there were reports of them shearing into the tooth valley - just reporting facts.

Dave and Eric,
Sometimes we say things or construct in writing not knowing how the message will be received. I aswell guilty. Yes, I did take it wrong as this is a classified site and not a forum to discredit an item.
As far as these breaking, yes they will if improperly installed. These are to be installed “wet” and not over torqued to the next hole either. Lash is set tighter as well.
I think keeping opinions of an item on the discussion forum and out of the classifieds is always a good rule. No one takes offense.
By the way I did send the individual who purchased them all the proper installation procedures for reference and added my assistance if required.
I am no expert and no one really is, only experience, for no man is greater than another! He is only fooling himself,
All the Very Best,
