1909-10 timer plate for sale
1909-10 timer plate for sale. This is a reproduction done by Donald B Hess 50 years ago. I now have found an original one. The back side has a small flaw that does not harm and does not show when installed. The post for the spring turns out. $450 postpaid to lower 48.

Re: 1909-10 timer plate for sale
My orignal I own is the same as your picture. The reproduction I have has the same part number, but the embossement is smaller. I have been told the the reproduction is copied from an original that was issued by Ford also, probably later than the original I have and the one you are looking for. The repro I am selling is based on an original and Hess, I beleive, used them as well as selling them.

Re: 1909-10 timer plate for sale
The difference is ,on the 09/10 the fan spring goes into the boss, the 11, the spring goes over the stud mounted on the boss…. Both covers will work with the brass two piece timer….Larry

Re: 1909-10 timer plate for sale
I just noticed that my repro plate number does not have a letter after it, so perhaps my repro is of on earlier issue, perhaps just after the water pump 1909s. Hess was the on e who restored Model T number "2". he collected 1909-1910 parts for years and had extra 1909 parts of those made after #2500. I remember him selling a 1909 trans cover that used one bolt & nut to secure the inspection plate.

Re: 1909-10 timer plate for sale
I spent a long time last night considering buying this, but opted to hold out for an original. This is what I understand based on the link below.
T-403 is the Timing Gear cover for the 1908 water pump cooled T’s. The casting number is found to be in the large block font as seen in the original cover photo posted above. The reference to the font is based on the only photo I have seen of one.
T – 403B is what was subsequently used on the cars without water pumps and with two piece timers. The casting numbers appear to be found on originals in large block letter, as well as, in a rectangle with round edges. Similar to the repro above, but the repro appears to be more of an oval shape. The boss on this cover has a well for a spring to sit in against the fan tensioning arm.
I believe T-403C was introduced in late 1910 and initially appeared to have used up the remaining stock of T-403B castings by tapping a hole in the well shaped boss for a bolt that applies pressure against the tensioning arm. The bolt does not appear to go all the way through the well. Ultimately a new casting was made and the boss was not well shaped, it was tapped all the way through for a bolt to pass through. The documented casting number I saw on the T-403C showed the following inside the raised rectangle “T-403” and then a vertical line to the right of the raised rectangle.
The reproduction above looks most similar to the final version of the T-403C, with the exception that the version never had a stud for a spring. In fact it seems no version had a stud for a spring, they had a well for spring or bolt.
With that said that is just my understanding, and I am sure this would work fine and allow you to enjoy your two piece timer.

Offers? it is a good plate. Someone who has a 1909-11 engine that needs such a plate should make an offer.
