This carrier can be used with wire or wood spoked wheels with the "Y" bracket.

No. The distance from the running board to the top mount post is different.

There is also a small metal plate that goes under the carrier.

The shim plate is there. Just hard to see in the pictures.

You can mount wire or split rims with this carrier. Split rims require the Y bracket
