Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
Hi Bryant,
I have a cap in a little better shape than the one pictured. In the past I have used the drive & adapted to a 009 Bosch distributer Then if wanted can go to Pertronics electronic ignition.
Craig.

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
A point you might want to think about. Most of these old units, the shaft and bushings/body are worn. With wear, you change your cylinder firing as the shaft wobbles and the air gap between the cap and rotor changes. A car putting around at 35 or less, might not be much of an issue, but ideally you want that gap to stay pretty close to the same all the time.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
Be careful. Caps for Bosch front plate distributors are not the same as caps for clip-on style distributors.

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
thanks for the heads up! I’ve been doing research till Iam blue in the face. Is this cap one for a clip on? I noticed a different part number and manufacturers logo.Jerry VanOoteghem wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 2:08 pmBe careful. Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
I believe the one shown by Sir Tim is for a clip-on. Notice how yours has a "male" locating lug, versus Tim's which has a groove for location.Bryant wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 3:04 pmthanks for the heads up! Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
It is not an "oil cup" but a "grease cup". Grease cups are designed to push grease into whatever

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
Here’s an example
I did see the clip on Bosch had the grease version. This distributor has to travel through an empty space about an inch. I think it may have had a wick. Thanks jerry for the pictures

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
Here's another part to look for. It's a rare find though. Hard to make it out in the photo, but the thumbnut has the "AB" American Bosch logo cast into it. Obviously not a necessity, but kinda cool if you can find one.

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
The condenser does not have to be inside the distributor.
Follow that distributor wire to the coil and place the condenser there.
All those little round condensers with the pig tail wire are the same size as an early Ford coil condenser.
Some of the coil bands have a small area about 3/8th inch square with a tapped hole in it for a screw to hold the condenser band.
Look for one of those.

Re: WTB American Bosch Distributor Parts
I have NOS point sets, rotors, resistance units and condensers available for the Bosch units. As mentioned before, no caps available at this time. Thinking about reproducing them, but still not enough interest. Included is pictures of the resistance unit and the condenser (if I finally got them loaded

Thanks Jerry! I think I’ve seen those before but wasn’t clear if they where for my distributor.
Thanks Frank for all the good info! The gears I have look to be repaired and I don’t think I will trust them.
