Since when has the use of other than standard carburetors been allowed on Montana 500 car? Have I missed some changes in the rules?

The only legal carbs are NH swaybacks that are carefully inspected for modifications. Air passages must pass a go/no go gauge inspection.

This carb is Illegal for use in the Montana 500!!
Interesting ad wording??

I see that Stan did work on this carb but it doesn't show that it has his trademark float level screw or neopreme seat

Good job calling on this. I have long been wanting to require details in descriptions, close up photos, and especially microscopic measurements on all wear areas. My strongest peeve is: looks good, should be ok, may be NOS. And then there is a photo of a bearing. How much will you pay me for what's in this bag?

I am the seller of this carb. I bought this carb 4-5 years ago on this site to put on a 26 Runabout. Never installed it. The seller told me Stan rebuilt it and he used it at the Montana 500 then took the carb off and stored it. I felt he was truthful. I have contacted the buyer of this carb and advised him I will be returning his check when it arrives. I don't want him to have any reservations about something I sold to him. I have been collecting cars and Model Ts for nearly 40 years and I have found people in the hobby are generally honest, I like to think that I am one of the honest ones as well.

Can everyone admit that maybe at 1 time maybe this carb was legal in the 500!! Why would Rick doubt what he told? As Gene said it has Stan's fingerprints on it.
I know Rick and he would never intentionally deceive.

Rick, thanks for the update and for your absolute honesty. Rather than return Tim's check, perhaps contact him first. He may well have been more interested in the fact that it is a Stan Howe rebuild rather than a Montana 500 carburetor. I know I would be that way inclined, having an OF from Stan on my roadster.

I would more lean to the fact that there was a misunderstanding somewhere along the line. I myself don't believe Stan would have marketed the OF towards use in the Montana 500. Stan was from Montana and in his opinion the OF was the best driving carb for a model T. There were many carbs for Model T's and he rebuilt most of them along the way. All of them worked, but he liked the OF in the fact it was user friendly. Just my opinion.

Rick, Sorry I didn't mean to offend just wanted a potential buyer to know and maybe educate a couple of others.

The OF is one of the best performing all round carbs for a T. Once set it seldom requires any adjustment. Often most of us get a little mixed up when we try to remember what someone says especially when a sale is involved.
I'd bet a large sum the buyer will not want to return it and the price was certainly fair.

NH carbs have been the only legal carb on "500" cars long before Stan got into the carb business. I've done at least 1 deal with Rick and maybe more that I don't recall, and can say he is an honorable guy to do business with. I'm sure it is a simple misunderstanding of the application before Rick got it.

Like Gene says, it was a good price and I'll bet the deal stands.

Kudos to you Rick for being a stand up guy over this.

Perhaps the carburetor was used on a "tour along" car, and not on a competitor.

I received the OF carb from from Rick. It's perfect just what I was expecting. I will be installing it as is, I already did adjustments and checked it out, no regrets on my part.
