For Sale - Wizard Straight Through Carb
Posted: Fri Jan 13, 2023 4:51 pm
This is a very clean, as-is carb. When I received it, it was missing the special 4-36 screw for the choke plate, which I made in order to keep the next guy from having to bugger things up.
Whoever I got this from had removed the patent plate and rewired it on. I have removed it so that the carb body may be blasted (if desired) and the plate will not be damaged.
It needs cleaning, but I have disassembled it and verified that everything is there, in good shape (as with all gravity-fed carbs the float valve should be replaced), and original to the carb (these carbs do NOT interchange with NH jets or needles despite what anyone will tell you...only the float valve and float are interchangeable...you do not have to worry about that with this carb.
What's wrong with it: Some dope cut off part of the mounting flange (it still mounts just fine and is not noticeable when mounted) and like many Wizards/Simmons/Duplex carbs, the heating element wire and nut are gone but no one in their right mind would use the heater on modern fuel. Finally, you'll need to fit a new choke spring.
Interestingly, the patents cover elements of carburetors patented in 1926 and 1931, so these carbs were very much late and post production items for the Model T. Nevertheless, they run well and are desirable carbs accepted as "period" carbs for the purpose of originality.
