We just obtained a small batch of 12 tooth pinions from our gear cutter. Only took us over a year to get them. Whole supplies last. Thank you.

You may need to shim a Ruckstell or recessed ring gear as I don't believe any were made to accept a 12 tooth that is smaller diameter than a 13 and bigger than an 11 tooth. I made a large ring gear shim from a 1/16 sheet of aluminum to get my ring-pinion clearance. Stacking 4-5 thinner shims may be asking for sheared ring gear bolts.

Personally, I would not trust aluminum for that type of a shim. It has enough "give" that it could lead to shearing the bolts. I have seen other places where aluminum was tried for shimming to fit, and seen it fail. I have not seen it used for a ring gear, but it makes sense to me that it might not be tough enough. The ring gear takes a lot of beating from driven torque and braking, that anything that allows any "give" at all would likely lead to failure.
My opinion.
