What the heck is this?

I found this in a pile of model t parts, I know it's not model t, but can't figure it out. Any help appreciated.

maybe an old amplifier body or shell for a power source from the "Wall of Sound". Look up Dave O'Brien who worked for Mcintosh, that's an interesting and brilliant fellow for sure.

Leave the patina and make a shop desktop light out of it.

If so, that is epic. Mac amps pop up (very rarely) from the wall of sound.

It's a resistor used somehow along with carbon arc projectors and or spotlights.

Jerry is right, It is a MCINTOSH STEREOPTICON RHEOSTAT for carbon arc projector lamps. Probably from a McIntosh Magic Lantern Slide Projector of sorts.

I collect Edison Kinetoscopes and it is used for carbon arc lighting. I have one just like it.
