It might help someone needing one to know if this one had the front notch out for a battery or not.

I thought it probably doesn’t because of the cast iron latch handles.

Hey there George. Apparently, the two styles of handles crossed over for a couple years. Speculation has been different suppliers of turtle decks changed over at different times.
Really hard to know for sure, a lot of runabouts had decks removed and then replaced later, all sorts of things. But While looking for mine for my 1915, I saw several at swap meets and advertisements with the cast or machine turned handles and the kick-out for the battery. I don't recall seeing any turtle decks with the flat handles and no battery access. I won't claim to know the exact proper answer, but I would guess Ford began switching to the later flat handles right around 1919, but probably some cars were still getting the earlier style handle into 1920.
I may be wrong about some of that? I sure would like to read a real time line for this and a lot of other minor changes.

Wayne, you don’t know how much this pains me…..but you’re right….I asked that question to a researcher at the BF Archives and received the following report from Mr. Jim Orr:
According to our (offline) inventory of the Model T part drawings, the Turtle Deck Door Fastener Handle was part T-5644. "Deck Door Handle Fastener - Forging Design" was Part # T-5644-A. "Deck Door Handle Fastener - Pressed Steel Design" was Part # T-5644-B.

The "Record of Changes" cards for T-5644-A and T-5644-B indicate the change was made on September 12, 1921.

If you would like to request images of the drawings, the cost would be $30 each. If you would like to request images of the Record of Changes cards, the cost would be $7 each.
