My T came with a small batch of spare parts.
1- What is it?
2- Keep or toss?

It is a driveshaft pinion housing, part number 2583B.
It is junk for a stock setup but might be usable for the modern pinion bearing conversion.
Someone who actually does the machining for the conversion will have to answer that.

Junk. Best to take it out of circulation, lest someone try to use it one day.

Its not worth keeping. I believe, good ones, where worth about $10 as a core charge for a modern pinion conversion.
Yours can be repurposed. Clean it up, make wood based, use it to hold files.

Lined cast iron brake shoes for a T.

Reproduction lined small drum rear brake shoes are good to use in many model Ts. Some modern era reproductions fit very well, and some do not fit very well. Original era sets are not found often, but usually do fit very well, and new lining can be put onto them. Since similar designs were made by several people over many years, these should be put into use on a model T.

Thanks again.. Last one for now. Similar to the brake but this does not have lining and seems to have been attached by the upper center hole, but now broken.

That's an original cast iron show that wasn't scored so as to break even at the pivot.

I would say that the last set of shoes shown, the broken ones, scrap.

The cast iron shoes onto steel drums back in the day were alright as a "parking" brake. But at today's speeds on today's roads and traffic, one should NOT at all count on cast iron only shoes onto steel drums! Too much likelihood that you will need to use that brake in a panic stop and they won't do that very many times before they become useless.

Good lined cast iron shoes, properly adjusted, can be an adequate emergency brake as long as you keep them well maintained.

That last broken brake shoes should be scrapped. The earlier posted lined cast iron shoes should be relined and used in an appropriate model T.

Steve makes a good point. The shoes were cast in one piece, which made it far easier to machine them at production time. They should be scored/cut part way through at the pivot hole, so that when they break, the shoes will stay in place and still work as they should.

The better reproduction lined shoes are also cast and finished in one piece. They also should be given the same treatment at the pivot hole. I have seen many cast iron shoes broken at various places, with varying degrees of carnage as a result.

Others say they should not be cut. That's OK if you are happy to have no control over where they break and are wiling to accept collateral damage.

Found another I think might be junk. Is this a driveshaft universal joint? There is so much play in the housing as well as the joint.
