Set of roadster top iron body brackets. Right and left with top nuts. $50.00 plus shipping

I've got a 1913 touring 1914 touring and a 1912 commercial roadster mother-in-law seat and I never seen a bracket like that on anything are you sure thereford

They have consecutive T part numbers and the Cleveland Hardware forge mark. That's a good start for T irons.

Wayne these are Ford brackets but you are somewhat correct. From some research they appear to be for later 21-25 bodied touring (rear pivot) and or roadster with the wood bodies and metal seat frame.
Anybody else know exactly?

This is from Bruce's C-D enclyl on factory part numbers. Yours appear to have stamped in numerals along with cast in numerals.
The stamped appear to be T-5178 and T-5179.


So using his info, the 2nd dates column is "Used On" dates, then these might then be 1915-1921 Top Irons rear seat. Especially if they are 5/16" thick and 7/8" wide as dimensions are listed.

These do measure 5/16 x 7/8 through the main body of the bracket.

Good to know. They are now identified, and both are in great shape too. Someone some where needs these.

Dan you could easily be correct. I always really appreciate your inputs and file them for future reference. Including the one you made above. But I think the original top pivots shown are actually for the 1921ish-1925 touring. And of course, Bruce points out that different style parts often had a time period of overlap use.

Rationale:

Disclaimer – my new glasses have been ordered but have not arrived yet…. Below is a photo from David Dare showing what I believe is a 1915 to 1921ish top pivot iron for a metal seat frame touring. Note it is significantly longer.
Below is a photo of the right rear seat top pivot iron from our unrestored apparently mostly original 1918 Beaudett bodied touring. While the upholstery (what is left of the original is under the 1950s college seat covers) hides the long part, you can easily see were it attaches to the door frame wood just above the metal rear seat frame. So that style rear pivot body iron goes all the way from just over the side of the body to the just above the rear seat heel panel.

Below is a photo from Clayton Swanson when he was selling an unmolested 1921 touring that still had the 5-piece rear tub and the top saddle rest coming down from the rear seat like the previous 1915-1920 cars.


Below is what I believe are the typical 1921ish (again overlap in production) to 1925 rear touring top pivot iron and it is considerably shorter than the 1915-1921ish style. Perhaps Ford saved money on the new style?
I suspect, but I do NOT know, that the later 1921-25 shorter pivot body iron would possibly work (might need an extra longer bolt and/or hole drilled – maybe some reinforcement?) on an earlier 1915-1921 metal seat frame body that originally came with the longer body iron.

Anyone who has access to both style bodies with the upholstery off – please let us know what you think?
