Link?
I "think" they used a special carburetor to burn kerosene and the double-back exhaust was used to heat the kerosene (or other fuel oil?) such that it would burn better in the engine.
I have seen one similar to that before.

I added the think to my first entry above. Started reading through it and its likely set up up to burn kerosene. The discussion include the address
Jay - In Northern Ca. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 - 09:28 pm:
"Well it took me a while but I dug around and found the original crate for the manifold. The branding iron lettering on the crate reads.
FROM, THE BURN-OIL DEVICE CO., MANUFACTURERS OF, BURN-OIL KEROSENE ATTACHMENTS, FOR FORDS, 120 N. JEFFERSON AVE., PEORIA, ILL."
----
That got me interested as Peoria is about 80 minutes from here, also where PACO bodies where made

I believe you could use a regular carburetor with that for kerosene and maybe for diesel and some light crude oils. You'd need to start on gasoline, and an air intake heat device would be helpful, especially in cold weather. Today's "white" kerosene would probably work very well with that set-up... if you could afford it. I'd think you'd need to change the oil very frequently and probably clean the plugs daily. Hot plugs might help, but dieseling could become a problem. Modern detergent crankcase oil might help prevent rings sticking from heavy carbon, and running the engine around 200 F would also help. If only kerosene was still 6 cents a gallon...
