Restored Stromberg OF Carburetors

Post by Bruce Compton » Fri Jul 26, 2019 11:33 am

I have two restored Stromberg OF carbs, one early and one late. Both have been ultrasound cleaned, bead blasted, all jets remove and cleaned, throttle shaft/bore rebushed, new gaskets and modified original needle valves with viton tips. Both have been adjusted correctly and test driven on my car to insure proper operation. Your choice @ $550.00 plus shipping

John, I can have a look at it. Hope it's totally complete as parts are almost non-existant (Stan makes some steel parts), so the only other way to get parts is buy another carb. Send me a PM. Bruce

I've never tried and OF, I've heard lots of positive comments re. performance improvement. My question, how do they do with and early t w/o a starter. Are they as easy to crank start as the NH?

They work great . I drove my original 1911 Torpedo cross country in 1984 with a OF crank start . Best carb

Mine starts 1/4 turn warm, haven't tried cold cranking. It usually starts with two strokes choked and fires up on the third, cold with the starter.

Very noticeable improvement in power and fuel mileage.

My only negative experience was due to the brass float not being smooth causing the needle control weights to work rough and on occasion getting stuck causing a dump of gas until I remove the cover and reposition the float. When it was working smoothly it was great.

Both Strombergs are sold. Probably the two nicest ones I've ever had. Thanks MTFCA

Mark : All the Stromberg OF floats have a soldered hole on one end. I'm guessing a tiny hole was intentionally punched there to avoid a pressure build up when the seam was soldered . After soldering the seam a small blob of solder sealed the "vent" hole. You will note that there is only one hole, so I always put the float in with the soldered hole at the bottom to prevent the solder from interfering with the brass weights. Repositioning the float doesn't do much as the float "floats" and will eventually rotate around the needle and cause the same problem.
