Looking for driveshaft spool

Post by Michael Paul » Wed Aug 14, 2019 8:13 pm

Hi, I'm looking for a closed driveshaft spool for 1911. I'm not sure what style was used, I understand there are subtle differences between the early and later. Anyone have a photo of the one I need? Or better yet have one I could buy?
Thanks Mike

Still looking, can anyone tell me what the difference is between the early and late closed spool?

Couple things. The earliest has the round rear flange without the bumps for the bolt holes and the number T191 embossed in the body. It accepts 3/8" studs. All I have seen have been redrilled at the factory(?) to accept 13/32" studs. The following spool has the round flange as above but has the number T 191 B embossed in the body. That's the the one you want for a 1911 car. They are not that hard to find, but you may have to pay a fair amount for one. The last closed spool has bumps in the rear flange area where the bolts pass thru. That one is by far the most common. The first two are illustrated below.

There are several T191B for sale on EBAY all about $30 & $15 shipping.

Just a head's up. The ones I see on eBay have the bumps on the rear flange where the bolts pass thru. The one Michael needs is the one with the full round flange. Agree all will do the job, but if you are concerned about having the right part for the year, the 191 B pictured above is the right one.

Is this a correct T191B or another variation. I don't see the bumps on the ones on your pictures

Thank you for the great info, I know what to look for now. I rather have the correct one, my chassis was all correct other having a later drive shaft.

Frank, the one pictured above is the later style used after 1912 until the open spool was adopted. They are the most common type seen and go for about $40 around here.

I have a nice one, just what you are looking for. Complete with sleeve and bearing, though I can't vouch for the bearing's condition. $125 plus postage. A lot, I know, but it is very nice.
