Post by Dan Hatch » Thu Nov 14, 2019 2:28 am

I am working on a new batch of Reamer/Taps for the Stevens Front Axle Tool. Should be ready by end of month. Have the Tapered Reamer and both inserts in stock. Email me at address in pictures for more info. Thanks Dan

So why to they need to be tapered? Today, they make Heli-coil taps and inserts that work great and ensure center at the bottom and for the top you can simply drill it out on a vertical mill an press in a bushing of the correct ID diameter of the kingpin bolt. I've seen this done many times with out issues. This is how a guy in PA did it, who was doing these for one of the model T parts suppliers, and there's lots of his rebuilt axles on the road today without incident.

With the Stevens tool the axle can be repaired on the car. Removal isn't necessary. This video was done with the axle off the car, but can be done with the axle still on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DNGT7P79vg
