amp gauge 1927 2 door sedan

the car has been sitting for 12 years in a climate controlled shop since driven not touched. no mice put in new battery negative ground. the amp gauge shows discharge when running but when shut off turn on lights shows charge
don't know what to do HELP

Sounds as though the wires are crossed on the ammeter - the new repro "small" meters are wire for Model A w/positive ground.
