Need help. My son-in-law broke a head bold off. He drilled and tried using
a eazy-out on it. Unfortunately a young would be helper with more strength
than brains came and tried forcing it and BROKE the eazy-out off .
It's Too hard to drill. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is any portion of the bolt sticking above the head surface? If it is, weld a large nut to it and try turning the nut. See a photo of the process in this thread.

Thanks Mark but no such luck it's all down in the hole.
I have no idea how to help him. Too hard to drill and I doubt if it could be broken up
with a drift pin. I'm at a loss.

You will need to remove the cylinder head in order to remove the broken stub - a bit more work involved but well worth the end result !

Any thoughts on if an arc welder could weld something to
the broken piece ? I am not familiar with an arc welder at
all. OR what if he cut new threads further up and used a
shorter head bolt that he would have to make up. I know
we are not dealing with very high compression. As you
can tell, I'm no mechanic. I dabble mostly in wood.

Find your local Snap-On tool vender. They sell drill bits strong enough to drill an easy out or a broken tap! No idea of cost, but if that's what it takes!

Another option after removing the head and hopefully you have a straight on access is to use a Hougen Brand Roto-broch. It is a hollow drill bit with a pilot. You can remove the pilot and carefully use either a 3/8" or 7/16' bit just enough to get around the broken piece. It has saved me many of times. Hope this Helps!

They will not drill out the easy out extractor but are very sharp and of a quality to deal with the broken bolt.
