I think a lot of those 7600 exist only "on paper". I just looked up three guys who have been dead for several years, and all their profiles are still up. It stands to reason that the widow or the kids might not think of removing the profile after a member checks out.

My wife would have no idea where I spent my time online if I kicked the bucket and even if she did it's not like she has my passwords.

The number grew here very quickly.

Steve makes a good point about registered users passing away and the forum not being contacted.
The same thing happens all the time in the Amateur radio hobby (ham radio).
When a ham passes away usually no one from the family lets the government license agency know about it. A ham license is good for ten years and after that the ham has to reregister for another one.
The same thing could be done for the MTFCA members but I guess it’s found out when the club magazine is not renewed.

Sometimes it is not prudent to delete old user ids so you can identify old posters.
Especially if you use 1925T as your id you would not know who made the post until you check the user profile.

A better indicator of how many of the 7600 are still even remotely active might be if they have posted anything in the last x# of years (maybe 5 to be generous). I don't think you could get the number of lurkers but that could be a musing as well. None of this really matters for much more than amusement purposes as long as we have an active group asking and answering questions, posting some general interest items like photos, coming events, or even the humor that has helped with the cabin fever for some. The artistic and literary talent have been some of the high points this winter.

Kinda looks like it will take care of it self for now. Everyone has to re-register?
