On the posts on this forum there is a symbol either looks like lines on a page or like a flame. Also some of the symbols have a star next to them some stars are different from others. What do these symbols mean?

The flame icon indicates an active thread, or "hot topic". The lines on a page thingie indicates unread posts in the thread if the thingie is red. If it is black, it indicates no unread posts in that thread.
