I haven't had to resize anything except my avatar. I did on the old forum, this one resizes for me. I honestly don't know how big they are to start.

Virtually any picture size can be uploaded to the forum and the software will resize it and the thumbnail, storing it on the server in the smaller size.

Another benefit is the pictures everyone sees are the same size.

.... now if we can figure out the sideways thumbnails we will be good.

Today when I try to post a picture i have to resize to 1200 pixels wide 800 pixels high or it WILL NOT take it

How big was the original photo?

The pictures are from my I-phone 3264X2448x8BPP 4.5MB

Dean will recognize this. The picture file is 2250 x 1812 (1.3 MB). I posted it with no trouble. The website automatically resized it to 133.48 KB.

The weird thing is that it rejected the pictures I tried to post this afternoon. The error message said jpg was an unacceptable extension. Since then I went to the bottom of the page and deleted cookies. I wonder if that's what fixed it.

Try now. Max Size increased to 3500x2500. Should accommodate iPhone pics now. I also slightly increased the image thumbnail size to 600 pixels that display in posts.

Yes. The thumbnail is a resized version of the original pic so it loads faster especially on slower links in rural areas. Clicking the pic gives you the full size, original image. Just wait until you see the new gallery I’ve been toiling on.

A little slow loading but detail is awesome.

My early attempts to load photos required resizing to the old forum size. Now that I am on the https: site, the photos automatically resize for me. This photo (my Tilly the day I bought her) was a jpeg at 3.1 Mb. No problems now.

The large thumbnails are a nice touch, and full size pictures now fill the window from top to bottom or side to side. Excellent! It's also nice to be able to post png screen shots without having to convert them. I hope the folks who have been setting their cameras to take small files for the old software will correct that and take advantage of the improvements.

Well, I may as well test this new photo format too. But I’m afraid, like Dallas Landers, my photos come out 90 degrees off but clicking on them makes them rightside up. Let’s look at Marvin’s ‘15 widetrack..

OK did a bit of research on the rotated thumbnails and made a program change to try & fix it.

Some technical stuff for those that like it!
During upload, phpBB doesn't change any orientation flag on uploaded images, regardless whether plupload is used or the "classic" upload function.

The rotating of (Iphone-)images is a browser thing. phpBB sends a naked bytestream to the browser by using the download/file.php script; the browser interprets the orientation flag. If you have a slow internet connection and huge image, you can recognize a sudden "flip" when the browser has finished loading the image.

Thumbnails are imbedded in a html-script via <img>-tag and interpreted different from the browser engine.

I added this code to the end of a statement in the upload program
preserve_headers: false

Replying to another comment about the image size setting, Jeff & I need to discuss further.

The image space used on the server will still take up more & more space as we go forward.

If the files use 800 KB instead of 200 KB you can do the math and see how we would fill up our space sooner.
