Vaporizer Question - bowel vent leak
Vaporizer fuel bowel vent (M) started leaking gas sitting not run in a couple of days in garage with fuel shut off. Does this indicate a float or needle valve issue?
I am inclined to remove the fuel bowl and clean the needle and seat. Am I on the right track?

I would say both the needle and shut off valve are part of the problem. The fuel shut off is not stopping the flow and the needle is not sealing.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Thanks for the Rx Dave but plan to take the holistic approach endorsed by Scott and Mark.
Will try to drop the bowel and clean he Needle and Seat later today. Also figure it a good idea to check and clean the sentiment screen also since something may have made it past into the fuel bowel. Will report back what I find.

I would rebuild that shutoff valve while I was at it. Lap the valve in and apply some EZ-Turn. Did mine 3 years ago. Absolutely no issues as I run the fuel out of my carb almost every time I park the car for any length of time.

That's another good suggestion. A friend told me about that lube and gave me some to try and this occasion would be a good opportunity. Thanks for the suggestion.

one other thing that happens, is that the actual cast iron seat machined into the carb body can be rough from abuse or old rust, as well as excessive pitting or porosity. The float valve may seal like a Zip-Loc but fuel still weeps past the hard red fiber washer between the valve body and the carb casting. This manifests itself by a relentless slow weepy drip that often is so slow it simply results in a tacky clinging dolop of gradue hanging from the bottom of the carb bowl. The real solution then is a lead washer under the float valve body and get rid of that hard red thing.

One other thing is; Ford increased the size of the float to compensate for the extra head pressure from the in cowl tank. You may be using the earlier smaller float.

Leaking vent repair went smooth. Removed the bowl and float, blew out the ball valve (thought I had the needle/seat type). Replaced the gasket and re-assembled. All appears well.
Drained the fuel tank, removed the shut off valve and found a couple large pieces of debris in the fuel tank blocking fuel to the inlet valve. Removed the debris and applied EZ lub to the shut off valve. Thanks for the suggestions.
Now the Bad news: Decided to check the rod bearings and shims because I noticed an increase in engine noise during coasting. Glad I did. All rod bearings loose back/forth play with all shims removed and excessive Left/Right play (crank out of round?) Rod cap for number 2 was missing a chunk of Babbit. That's a show stopper.
Now the dominoes begin falling.... Crank is out of round, re-babbit bearings, check/lap valves/lifters, check/replace rings, check cam and gears, 4th main leaking/replace, check trans; clutch plates, etc..... Outside my league here; I'll stick to the electrical system. Time to seek professional help. Interested in recommendations for a good engine re-builder in the NJ area. Bummed I wouldn't be driving my 1927 Touring this summer, I had hoped the engine would last until fall.
