WTB - Forged L-Shape Front Shackles Set

Post by CDooREDW » Fri Aug 21, 2020 11:05 pm

For ‘22 Centerdoor. Seem to be rare and hard to find, ones that are not badly worn anyway. Anyone out there with a set for the rear as well?
Neither Hank Lee nor Model T Haven have any serviceable ones.
Thanks, Ron

Thanks, Mark. I must have missed the magic words when I was searching eBay. Took a close look and best I can tell the ones offered are worn as badly as are mine. May have to bite the bullet and use a repro set until I can find a good set, or, since here in HSV we’re a hotbed of R&D, I might just see what it might take to have some reproduced at a decent price. We’ve got a lot of local precision machine shops.

If I find/make any, Steve, I’ll let you know.

v/r,

Ron

Thanks ! You might check with Bob Bergstadt (Bob's antique Auto Parts) - his Dad had stashes of NOS parts.

A friend of mine takes the ones that aren't worn below the thread diameter, puts them in his lathe (in a fixture) and turns them round, then presses a sleeve on them to bring them back to original diameter--voila! new again.
T'ake care,
David Dewey

Thanks, folks! I’ll have to check with Bob and this also gives me an excuse to get on the move and get the antique lathe out of storage and get it set up. Much appreciated.

Ron, they are rebuildable. In past posts Steve Jelf and I showed the tools we used to hold shackles welded up for re turning down to size. Others may be able to refer you to our posts.

Allan from down under.
