Anybody have a decent ‘12-‘17 pan available?

Post by Adam » Sat Feb 23, 2019 11:19 am

I am looking for any good “taper nosed” ‘12-‘17 engine pan. I’m working on a ‘12. The existing original pan has “3 rivet” style arms and a “teacup” oil drain. Finding a very good “3 rivet” or “7 rivet” ‘12 pan would be ideal, HOWEVER, it isn’t going in a car that will be judged and we would be happy with a real nice ‘13-‘17 pan if we can get one fairly quick. Within driving distance of Milwaukee or Madison, WI would be ideal.

I do have one lined up for Chickasha, but prefer not to wait that long.

I will be at the 2/24/19 West Bend, WI Model A Club swap meet for a couple hours Sunday morning. Just mentioning this because I know quite a few T hobbyists attend this one... I won’t have a space “just visiting” (maybe 8-10). Thanks!

Adam, I have a really good 3 rivet pan and I am looking for a 7 rivet 1912 pan to replace it with. If you come across a 7 rivet pan I would love to swap and give you a little extra.

I have a nice pan removed from my car, built in Sept 1916. I believe it is what is referred to as a 7 rivet. The day before I broke my ankle I sprayed Zinc chromate primer on the outside and coated the inside with WD 40, thinking I might sell it when I figured out what was a fair asking price. I've seen them sell for some pretty hefty prices but don't want to gouge anyone. I'm in the Thumb of Michigan, 45 minutes North of Port Huron (the bottom of Lake Huron) so not really in range of either of you.

Wish I had a better picture of it. The fellow who rebuilt my engine soda-blasted it in preparation for reinstallation before I decided to go another way, thus the need for Zinc chromate, etc. I do have a three-dip cover for it with brackets. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Tim - 7 rivet refers to the number of rivets that attach the c.c arms to the c.c.

Ahhhh! I learn something every day. When my buddy comes over next week I'll ask him to take a couple pix for me so I know exactly what I've got.
Thanks!

I have 8 narrow nose pans, you can come and take your pick, 100-150, there is one seven rivet but it needs some work, front rivets loose and the threads are stripped out on the tea cup.

Bob and Joe, I would prefer to see a pan in person before I buy it. I’m in Southeastern Wisconsin. If you were going to Chickasha and could bring it along, we could meet up there. Thanks.

Mark, The original pan has old large weld repairs to the nose, 1 arm, and corners. The inside corners have cracks that extend a few inches into the sump that have been previously welded, cracked again, brazed, and cracked again. The inside of the pan at the arms have similar repairs. Plus, there is a long “wrinkle” in the pan that was maybe a stamping error that could be a source for future trouble. I can properly repair the existing pan, but proper repair isn’t cost effective.

Yikes! I asked because others may be wondering also. Keep your eyes on Ebay also, I did see you want to check it out first, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way and you may have to rely on photos and description.

There are three different style pans used in 1913! It's good to know what you are looking for!
