Evening all,
I was flip flopping between keeping this driveshaft or using my earlier one for my January 1913 Roadster. Ive decided to keep the earlier one based on some more research, and get rid of this one I originally was going to use before the early driveshaft fell in my lap.
This is nice and straight looking(to me). Still very greasy ball and tube. Doesnt look like too much wear on the radius rod holes.
Now, I was going to have to do some work on this driveshaft tube. The ball end, for some ungodly reason (and only the perpetrator knows), has had about 3/8" cut off the last part of the ball. I have no idea why!
I was going to trim up the end of it in a lathe, and use a later donor ball to part off the extra bit and weld to the old 2 piece ball. The donor ball is included in sale.
One thing Im not sure of, is the base flange looks odd to me. I thought there was a lip there? Im not sure why it would be machined off, unless the later spools dont us it? Or it was always this way?
Those are the only issues I can see with it.
Asking $450 or best offer.
Will ship worldwide. Or can meet for a pickup. I live between Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

Cutting off the end of the ball is sometimes done when using a ball bearing 4th main ( supports the end of the transmission at the rear of the engine pan).

Re: FS: 1913 1914 2 Piece Driveshaft
The rear portion of the tube at the flange would have had a small lip that fit over the closed spool, now ground off. This could have happened to use a later open spool. As Layden has said the U joint ball has been cut back to use a ball bearing 4th main ball cap. This tube should be useable with clean up, even with the cut off ball, and will take a closed spool ok.

thanks for the insight on this shaft, I was really confounded on why this was done.
