Ring gear

Post by Joe Bell » Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:54 pm

I was at an airport getting fuel today and noticed the gear on the drum to rewind the hose back up was a T rear axle ring gear and the 12 tooth pinion was on the driven side, this was an 80's fuel truck, who would of thought them still being used!!

Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette, Ind. was the USA manufacturer of replacement T Ring and Pinon gear sets for many years. Not sure if they still make them for the suppliers now or not. If you look closely at ring or pinion made by them, there will be a small "FM" stamp somewhere.

Yes the Hannay reel company uses a copy of a model T ring & pinion for the hand rewind used alot in the fire & cemical service. I have replaced some of them. If you look real close you will find they are cast aluminum. I bet there is a interesting story about how that came about to be a model T ring & pinion.
