Need TT bed info

Post by RalphS in NE Oregon » Sun Jun 16, 2019 7:40 pm

For those of you with factory Ford Script TT platform beds, what are the dimensions? How high is the top of the bed above the frame rails?

The top of the TT Ford Truck stakebed is precisely 12” above the top of the frame rail. The TT Ford Truck bed is precisely 99” X 73”.
However, there were two sizes of the stakebed. Mine is a mid year 1927 enlargement. Previously, from its introduction in 1924, the stakebed width was much narrower.

The bed length will be the same but maybe someone with an earlier stakebed can post the earlier width...

Thank you George. When you have time would you mind posting a photo of how the bed is supported underneath?

Sure....The TT stakebed is metal and wood. I have an example of the bed wood and it is Pine. Underneath the bed, in a metal subframe parallel to the truck frame, there is installed a hard wood. I used oak. See the pics. The subframe rests on the ‘ears’ of the rear frame crossmember and, in latter years of TT production, is fastened by U bolts. The taillamp/license plate bracket is fastened to a rear cross-bed metal support. I’m sorry about the muddauber nest at the top of the pictures. They’re our state bird and we’re not allowed to disturb their nests...😜

Oh, .... and please enlarge the pictures to notice the heavy gauge sheetmetal ‘channel’ that wraps on each side and bottom of the bed subframe where it contacts the frame crossmember ‘ears’. It is encompassed by the U bolts. Later frame ears like mine have 2 holes in the crossmember ears for the U bolts. Earlier TT frame ears have only 1 hole. Which is yours Ralph ?

George, thanks for the pictures. My truck was built in December 1925 and has the two holes in the crossmember. The holes are about 2 3/4" apart, and from side to side are 27" apart to the inner holes. What does the front attach to? I have the two body support brackets at the back of the body but those holes are 26" apart.
I don't have a bed at this point and am looking for one that will work. I had been under the impression that only the TT beds said FORD TRUCK on the back, and that from Model AA on said just said FORD, but I recently saw a vintage picture of an early AA truck that has FORD TRUCK on the back.
Thanks for your help. Good information.
Ralph

Hi Ralph, I also have a TT mine is a 1926 and the stake body bed on mine only says FORD across the rear frame member. I don't believe it's the original bed for my truck.

Well, now I got my old butt on the creeper and rolled under the C Cab. Understand that only 5 % of TTs were sold with Ford Cabs - either C Cab or Enclosed Cabs. They’ll have the frame-to-body brackets like my attached picture. However, if you have the car body-to-frame brackets, yours was one of the 95 % that was sold as a chassis to have made locally a custom wood cab. There are two peculiar and different brackets. A metal working fabricator could probably reproduce these. All 3 pictures taken from the right side. The first 2 pictures are of the rear bracket. The red oxide painted bolt/nut fastens the body. The other fastens the bed. The last pic is the front bracket from below. If you don’t have a Ford Cab; all you need is the car body-to-frame brackets. Good luck

George, mine is a factory closed cab truck. It has the same bracket at the back of the body as yours, but only uses the rear hole for the body and whatever bracket for the bed there was. This tells me that the C cab must have been slightly shorter since it used the front hole. The pics below show my bracket from below and above. Any idea what the second bracket you see in the second picture was for?

Ralph, I sure don’t know what that offset bracket w/ 3 rivets and rectangular opening ....is for. Have had 3 Enclosed Cab TTs and never saw that.

Ralph,

Take a look at this thread: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/29 ... 1199242983

It shows the differences in cab mounts. You're picture seems to show the earlier single hole rear cab mount prior to them going to the dual hole rear cab mount. I believe that my TT has the front of the bed fastened in the second rear most hole in the picture. I'll take a look today and see if I can get some pictures. I've got a later Ford bed on the 27 TT and I have the original Ford Truck bed from my 26 TT. I'll see if I can get some measurements from it as well. - Matt

Hello my 26 TT has the same two hole rear bracket. The cab is bolted to the rear of the two holes.
