Fun / Interesting Bumper Stickers, Road Signs, Etc.

Post by Burger in Spokane » Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:41 pm

My favorite bumper sticker is the ambiguous:

MORE PEOPLE ARE DOING IT TODAY THAN EVER BEFORE

Seen on the back of the semi-trailer:

< --- THIS VEHICLE MAKES WEIRD TURNS --- >
More people are doing it today than ever before !

They need one that says:
CAUTION ! IM AN IDIOT AND WILL STOP WAY PAST THE WHITE LINE AT A RED LIGHT AND THEN HAVE TO BACK UP FOR A SEMI MAKING THE TURN!
It happens every day in our town.

I got a good laugh out of this one, ....

35 years ago I came upon a well-used early 60's Chevy 1/2 ton long box 2x pick up going
down the road in the ranch country of eastern Oregon. Driving, was one cowgirl I would
have loved to do a roundup with. On the tail gate was the take-charge message of a bumper
sticker reading:

A HARD MAN IS GOOD TO FIND

On no other vehicle or driver situation was that bumper sticker more appropriate.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

I think Burmashave signs were already passé when I was too young to read, but I remember the folks commenting on the survivors. There are books out on them, the only one I have committed to memory:
ROAD WAS CURVIN'

CAR WAS WHIZZIN'

FAULT WAS HER'N

FUNERAL HIS'N

BURMASHAVE

Before Ladybird Johnson decreed that highway road boards should become extinct, an Idaho oil dealer known as "Fearless Ferris" advertised his "Stinker" stations with road boards. (His logo was a skunk, that's another story). On the backsides of them in black on yellow were funny legends. E.g. :
"Warning to tourists ! Do NOT laugh at the natives."
"Get a horse !"

"Caution. Vehicle speed monitored by GPS"

Now, I gotta ask. Are they admitting that they know that driving the actual speed limit, when everyone else is doing 10 over, might be hazardous? The fact it says "Caution" seems to imply there is a hazard they are warning against.

Bumper stickers aren’t cheap - I spend a few hundred dollars on them - but they entertain folks on the road .... ;)

In keeping with the humorous theme of the thread, I will post this one that made me chuckle the other day (probably because it is truer than not)

"ALL WOMEN ARE BI, IT IS A MANS JOB TO FIGURE OUT IF IT IS SEXUAL OR POLAR"

Honestly though IMHO they are completely TACKY. I have 14 cars, truck & trailers & you won't find one on any of them. If I buy another one tomorrow & it had a bumper sticker on it, removing it would be the first thing I did to it.

God Bless
Bill

I picked these up at an estate sale a few years ago. Same size as a Wheaties bicycle license plate.

They were typically mounted inside the car.

I never put bumper stickers on my cars. I love reading them on other people's cars.

Not a bumper sticker but a roadside billboard. Some years ago, a cousin in Canada sent me this. It had been put up by the Saskatchewan Pork Council to encourage people to buy more pork. Someone apparently explained to them the problem with the message, and the billboard came down soon after. :D

Not a bumper sticker but a roadside billboard . . .
?!? Maybe butchers as a class are naïve innocents ? For a short time a local market proclaimed on their reader-board - "you can't beat our meat !"
That was changed hastily as well. :o
"Get a horse !"

Along the lines of not quite wording things right, kids can come up with some
pretty funny/awkward things ....

When my kid was about 5, he was up in his room playing with blocks and toy cars,
singing to himself. I listened for a moment and recognized the then-new song by
Bette Midler, Wind Beneath My Wings. Only his version went:

"Did I ever tell you you're my negro ?"

In spite of his sweet little voice, we had to have a little discussion about that.

Last week, my 3-year-old niece was singing along with Uncle Bill in the car to the
oldies station. "Funky Nassau" came on and got the singalong. Later he found her
singing it to herself, but "Funky Nassau" had morphed into F#@%&g Axxhole". Like
my incident, he had to have a little chat with the dear child to get that train on the
right track for public consumption.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

I liked "My body lies over the Ocean" when I was a kid. It did seem a little morbid.
When did I do that?

When a kid, my older brother admitted he used to think a line in one of Johnny Cash's songs was:
"When I hear that whistle blowing, I hang my head out to dry."
Since I lost my mind mind, I feel more liberated

Rich E, When I was in grade school, I twisted that one to
"My body lies over the ocean.
My body lies over the sea.
My body's the headless horseman.
Oh bring back my body to me!"

We need more good bumper snickers!
