My car had some blow by and smoking so I decided to
Put in a new set of rings. I am at standard bore with cast iron pistons. All of the vendors were out of standard
Rings so I ordered .010 over and gapped them to .012.
I started it up and got smoke out of the crank case once it got hot then the motor was tight. I have it back apart
No dAmage was done. Should I gap the rings wider or
Wait for Grant to make some standard rings. Philip

Those rings should hold oil better than the standard rings. I would suspect your bore is out of round from many years of service. You may possibly even have scored cylinders. If you honed the cylinders, the rings might "break in" with a couple thousand miles. If not, you need to rebuild the engine. Another possible cause of oil burning could be loose intake valve stems which would cause vacuum to draw in oil. Another reason to rebuild the engine or at least replace with oversize valve stems.

I put new valves in reamed .015 over. There was no smoke out the tail pipe but out of the oil fill. I set the
