Poster location is gone

Post by fschrope » Fri Jan 03, 2020 10:24 pm

Why is the posters location no longer shown to the right of the post.

I always found it interesting as to where a person was located. Sure, a lot of them are common knowledge, but not all.

How come?

Interesting and useful when someone needed help with something. It made it easy to estimate whether they are 30 or 3,000 miles away.

Good question, a lot of us kinda want to know where our brethren (and Sistern) of the Model T are. Never worried me if someone knew where i was from - actually, if someone up here near Mt. Lassen got stranded in their T, I would hope they would know they would have a helping hand nearby...

So yeah, what gives???

I hadn't noticed, but you're right. I have always thought that the location of the poster was useful information for being able to offer help. Wonder why it's gone.

I like it better when you can see at a glance without having to look at a person's profile.

Yes, if you look for it, you can find it. But up until fairly recently, it was shown on the right side of the message along with the other information. As Fred pointed out when he started this thread, one day it simply disappeared. The fact that it's available after taking action to find it is not the same as glancing to the right of the screen and seeing it. I guess the question is, what purpose was served by making us look for it and was it done intentionally or was it a side effect of some other change to the site?

Chris, as long as you're there... Something I am curious about. The second entry shows the alleged "joined" date - down to the time - and puts it in 2019 somewhere. Yet you go down to the bottom - and it says when you ACTUALLY joined the "board" (in my case back in 1999 somewhere, and likely it was before then, tho I can't remember)... My question is why we have a double disparity?

Personally, I never had an issue with my location being up here - like I said, it lets people know where I am and (if they need to) where to find help if, say, they're visiting the area. But having 2 joined dates - one actual, and one from last year - is confusing as heck.

Thanks for your hard work...
:-) Susanne

Joined is when you signed up for the new forum.
Board Member Since is when you first posted on the old forum.
For those who first posted during 2019, both are the same.

Clicking to find a location is not a major hardship, but it would be a nice convenience to have the information shown where it was until recently.

Sooo......did you find anything out?

It is pretty obvious that the posters above would like the have the location shown alongside the post.
