Desirable hood ornament

Post by Dropacent » Wed Jan 15, 2020 4:55 pm

I have only 4 of these available, $100 each. Mercury, the winged messenger. Raw Casting of the the very desirable winged mercury hood ornament. Heavy pewter alloy. No lead! This will take some filing, sanding, to smooth out the casting. Even a sharp knife will work. When done to suit, it will take a nice polish and if desired , send it to get nickel or chrome plated. Only 4 will ever be sold, the 5th is for my car. tmorsher@icloud.com Don’t sit around and gripe because Lizzie is on blocks for the winter. Actually I believe that is Hermes not Mercury. Late 20's and early 30's Buick Radiator Mascot. My son's 1931 Buick has the original identical mascot with just a different mounting (no motometer).
"Remember son, there are two ways to do this: The right way, and your way” Thanks Dad, I love you too.

GREEK, ROMAN ? Desirable hood ornament

Post by Dropacent » Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:43 pm

One is Greek, one is Roman, neither makes much difference to this Buckeye! I’m going with the Roman Mercury. I had a neighbor once that went by Hermès, a real idiot ! Actually, this was the mascot used by the Mercury Body Corp in Louisville .... coming up on the 100th anniversary of this company formation. If you don’t have Jarvis several different books, they are great reading for the complete auto library. I stole a shot of his cover for the plug !

Tim,

I think he looks more like a guy in the Olympics with tights that are too tight. I think they called him Marcel or something!
