I think that perhaps those photos of your carburetors should be framed and hung in the Model T Museum so people who visit can see all the different types and see your works of art. They would look good in the library too.

Thanks, years ago somebody was wanting to come do a story on my collection of accessory carbs and wanting me to donate them to the museum. Once they found out donate was not in my vocabulary the whole idea went south.
I've sold quite a few of them since then but have bought a few. I still like them.
As you may or may not know, I did a souvenir booklet on them for the Hutchinson winter clinic years ago and gave them out to people who came. I'd like to do another one of those. I'd also like to have time and ambition to up date my web site to show a lot of these but never seem to have time or ambition.

I would be willing to put up a little cash to help cover the cost of the photos for the museum if they are interested in hanging them up. I just think that is one way to let people see the different carburetors and I haven't seen any better carburetor pictures then what you post.

Norman, nearly every carburetor is test run before it goes in a box. Exceptions are those that are going to some countries in Europe, New Zealand and Australia for the most part. It is due to residual gasoline odor that their sniffers would pick up. Other than that they are run on a test engine after a leak test. I have some opinions about which are best for what application. NO carburetor is best for every use. ALL carburetion is a compromise between the functions. 1. Starting 2. low speed 3. acceleration 4. high speed 5. heavy load -- with economy also a factor.
I don't have time or energy to argue with the experts who have rebuilt an NH with a kit but know more about them than I ever will so I don't post opinions much about which is best or worse. Although after a couple thousand carbs I do have some idea of what runs how. I will say this: There is a lot more to it than flow. It is easy to get better flow. Hard to get better performance without sacrificing the other requirements. For example, high flow is great for high speed but if the flow is too high they have less starting ability and usually rough idle.
There are dozens of Doctoral thesis that were written about carburetors and performance, thousands of ideas tried. There were -- at best guess -- over 200 accessory carbs produced for Model T Fords. All trying to find the best compromise of all the functions needed for successful running of the engine.
Dennis, I doubt they are interested in my photographs and to tell the truth, most of this stuff goes in a box and goes to the new owner as soon as it is dried after the test run so I don't have this kind of inventory. I don't photograph many of them, I just have a pretty cheap Fuji camera so the quality is not all that good. I just thought these were extra spiffy. Thanks for the offer, tho.

Dennis, I have always wanted to put together some kind of a book about them other than what I did for the winter clinic about 12 years ago. There are not enough hours in the day. It would be of very limited interest but there would be some people who probably would be interested.

Dan, the Breeze went to a guy in Virginia who is bringing a 1910 Model 20 Hupmobile back to life. It is the only one of those I've seen that looked like it ran long enough to actually wear out before it got replaced. The spindle for the air valve slide was worn about 1/4 of the way through, the throttle shaft was worn and the bosses were way out of round, etc. I made about every part for it except the arms and float. I was actually surprised at how well it ran on the test engine. (Which is a Ford 600 tractor with a 134 cubic inch engine and an adapter for test carburetors.)
There must be a lot of miles on that Hupp.

An ultrasonic tank doesn’t clean brass like that, so I assume you bead blast them before polishing.
But what do you do to protect the brass after you’re finished to keep it from tarnishing right away ?

Then I come back to Earth and remember the two other (non Model T) old cars in my stable that need attention first and the Vega Kammback that I want to build. So I'll just be happy to drool instead.
