Chickasha Status - NOW CANCELED

Post by Larry Azevedo » Sat Mar 14, 2020 10:41 am

********************
per Susie, the meet has now been canceled

from their website:

Update 3/16/2020: We just spoke with the officials at the Grady County Fairgrounds this morning at 9 am, & have decided that the meet is being postponed at this time. We appreciate your understanding as we follow the guidelines of the CDC on Covid-19.

Please pass this information on to our friends that were planning to attend.

********************

I talked with Mark Erslund from the Chickasha this morning (3/14). The swap meet is on. Please go to their website for up to date information. He will be posting an update this afternoon. The website address is http://www.pre-war.com/
Here are the latest postings on the Chickasha website:

Update 3/12/2020: The governor of the State of Oklahoma held a press conference today at 1pm discussing covid19. There are 3 confirmed cases in Oklahoma, none of which is within 100 miles of Chickasha The Governor stated that there is no need for closing schools or cancelling large events at this time. If you feel ill, for your safety and ours, please stay home. If you are uncomfortable attending, we'll see you next year.

Update 3/11/2020: The rumors about our meet are just that, rumors. We have been busy today marking spaces getting ready for you all next week. Susie's getting several new vendors coming for their first time this year. Sorry if you can't make it this year, especially because of the travel restrictions that have been implemented. Hope to see you next week.

Of the 3 reported cases in Oklahoma, 1 has recovered. https://www.news9.com/story/41889447/2- ... e-expected The news sometimes distorts the reality - for example now that testing has started they will start to say the virus is "spreading". Technically they can not conclude that since they don't really have a base line count in a community to compare against, just yet. So you can expect lots more cases to be reported as a result of testing. NOTE: That just because a person has been "tested" and free of the disease doesn't mean they can't get it the next week. Again as a result of testing more numbers will emerge - those without the disease, those with it, and those that recovered from it and more conclusions will follow. Coronavirus, COVID-19, is a pneumonia type of disease and people who have current respiratory issues need to be especially on their guard. This CDC site explaining symptoms, how to protect yourself, what to do if you feel ill etc https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... ptoms.html
Everything you need to do to protect yourself from COVID-19 is exactly the same for the Flu. The only difference between them is that there are vaccines to help protect us from getting the different strains of the Flu and none yet for the Coronavirus. So start some new habits
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Weather at Chickasha in March has always been a gamble. Looks like we're very lucky this time.

Jerry, Scooters have not been available in the past years. I guess they think we are all "old farts" and we already have scooters . :) I bring my own scooter, I also always bring a 20 foot long trailer. It has never came home with less than I brought to sell, even though I sold most of what I brought to sell. Hope to see y'all there, spaces SL 11,12,13, and 14

Have fun and be safe .....

With things changing, sometimes twice a day,It would behoove all of you to keep checking the website and other sources of info because just as it happened here friday about the schools, the govenor could drop the bomb at any minute on events in the state.

I still plan on going unless it is canceled. Every state will need to issue a "state of emergency" That assures they will get whatever aid and money is available. I just plan on using good flu season techniques.

The good thing about this event is the type of folks who attend. Almost everyone is of the generations who have most of the common sense left in the world, and real concern for other folks. This event in no way resembles a music concert or a major sporting event. So I will be doing my remaining packing. Add some extra food and toilet paper, and leave Wednesday headed to Chickasha.

See y'all there .......

My dad is coming with me. He's 80. I asked him if he was concerned. His reply was, "People are spread out at a swap meet. It's not like church where you're shoulder to shoulder. We won't shake hands, we'll keep our hands out of our face and we'll wash our hands a lot. But, we'll have a great time."

Good, common sense from my dad.

I came up from Key Largo yesterday, Im in the panhandle now heaint to TN then OH before OK. I saw about 5 "convoys" consisting heading south on 75. Most comprised 2-3 trucks and 2-3 humvees. One of the humvees was a command im assuming but the trucks included fuel (2 tankers), generators, mobile cranes/booms, a flatbed hauling which appeared to mobile baricades, an coms truck with a large dish. Very light trucking heading north almost normal heading south. Tons of RV's going everywhere.

I have cancelled.
We have been requested to self isolate and driving half way across the country hardly fits with that request. The goal of the self isolation is not to stop me getting sick but to slow the spread of the virus. If we as a country don’t achieve a slow down, all medical facilities will be swamped and thousands will die. This self isolation has worked in China and SouthKorea. We can see what happens when a nation continue unabated in Italy. I for one don’t want that in the US.
Look for my stuff to appear in the classified😊

If the country's reactions to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 represent our finest hours, our country's reaction to this represents the opposite.

If the country's reactions to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 represent our finest hours, our country's reaction to this represents the opposite.

While the military and terrorist attacks and a pandemic call for different responses, we were unprepared for all three. The way South Korea has handled this makes some of us other countries look like fools.

While we are all practicing social separation for the coming weeks I'll be gathering stuff to take to the postponed Chickasha. I'll see you on the other end, whenever that is.

I’m glad to hear somebody got a call. I was wondering if they were in contact with anyone. I knew it was canceled because I saw it here, but as a vendor with a pre-paid space I haven’t been contacted by phone or email. Was thinking maybe I wasn’t contacted because they know I’m on this forum frequently and there was no need.

I have been wondering how many people that don’t use internet and social media might be pulling in over by the railroad yard today and tomorrow...

There has probably been some deals made and cars and what not to be sold and swapped that were already paid for or whatever. So yea,I would say there will be some folks meeting at the local Walmart or something for big money items.
