Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
I could use one too. I don't like the idea of aluminum heads! This one would be for my 1925 pickup too.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
I have a Waukeshaw-Ricardo head. It isn't super high compression, but it can be milled .050-.060 for a little more compression, plus the combustion chamber design gives better low end torque. Unfortunately, I am 200 miles from my parts and with the virus threat, I may be another month from going to them.

Hi From Iowa: I have a mint Waukashaw0- Ricardo head. I bought it for a speedster, ran into a Fronti OHV that I have decided to use instead. I would sell for my investment of $600 it is ready to go to a new home. Thanks John

I believe that the Pruss head is available in cast iron for additional cost.

Unfortunately, not at this time, unless someone has one in stock. I emailed Kevin Prus last night, and he prompt replies early this morning. Due to difficulty getting quality casts, he doesn't done any, and is waiting for a batch of aluminum casts, as well.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
I'm not so proud of my Ricardo head as to ask more than what a new aluminum head can be bought for; in fact, I would trade even for a new Z head, or $335.00 plus shipping.ModelTWoods wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 11:48 amI have a Waukeshaw-Ricardo head. Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
I would be somewhat on the fence on the W/R head.... Plus time would likely be against it, as mine will be readtly for a head and driving be weeks end.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Well, with the limited availability and choice of iron heads (other than stock), I wish you luck finding one before this weekend. If an iron head with more compression than a W-R is the only thing to suit you, you may not be driving this weekend, and the only other choice (assuming you don't luck onto an iron head with more than 5 to 1 compression, might be to mill a stock head, the maximum of .150 and drive with that until your lucky day arrives.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
I certainly can't argue with any of that. As I am not looking for high-speed I am looking just to flatten out the hills a little bit it is very likely the increased torque all the WR head may be of more benefit to me, anyway. This weekend was a target not an end all requirement. I will just have to see if waiting a month or more is worth it, though. I understand the situation. A couple hundred miles is not chump change to drive to sell a piece of equipment, on a good day!

Kevin did make a run in cast iron in one of his first runs of heads, but as D. Hoshield found out and posted in the post below this one, Kevin hasn't done any more since then.Steve Hughes wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 3:04 pmI believe that the Pruss head is available in cast iron for additional cost.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Terry ....
Could you please give me a ballpark figure for shipping to Petoskey, Michigan 49706, for the head ..... and maybe let me know if/when you have an idea of when you can make it available? Maybe I can slap my head back on and to my pre-season run-ins, in the interim.
Thanks,
Dennis

Hello Terry; If Dennis decides against the W-R head I have brand NEW "Z" head I bought but did install because the crankshaft broke in that engine first and my other engine already had "Z" head on it. So we might can talk!

PS What is the rated compression on the W-R?

Dennis, if you or someone reading this can post the weight of a W-R or a stock high head, I'll give you as close a freight estimate as possible. Also, specifiy whether you prefer Fedex Ground or UPS carrier.dhosh wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 3:03 pmTerry ....

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
David, according to the MTFCA Tulsa club website, a stock T high head is rated at 3.8-1 ; a W-R head is rated at 4.0-1 ; and a W-R milled .050 yields 4.2-1. Milling a W-R .060, might get you 4.3-1 , but you might have to fly cut or mill just enough off the top of a W-R combustion chamber to insure piston to head clearance.pops wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 9:27 pmHello Terry; If Dennis decides against the W-R head I have brand NEW "Z" head I bought but did install because the crankshaft broke in that engine first and my other engine already had "Z" head on it. Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Terry... I'll weigh my high head tomorrow.... Sorry... I read your post about compression, and went to the Tulsa club's technical pahes... but missed this one about the weight. UPS ground should be fine...
According to this post:
http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/11 ... 1281751326
A '26 head is 26 lbs. That should be close enough for a ballpark..

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Dennis, my local UPS Store estimates approximately $48.70 by UPS Ground for a package 20x6x4 weighing 26 pounds. I may be off on the measurements of the package as I didn't have a head to measure and the 26 pounds doesn't include any extra weight of packaging which should not add much. Anyway, shipping will be at actual UPS rate that I pay. Even if I am off on size and weight, I wouldn't expect shipping to exceed $50.00, if we are close on weight. No extra fees for packaging.dhosh wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 10:07 pmTerry... I'll weigh my high head tomorrow.... Sorry... Hi, Terry...
Sorry.. I've been off forum for a bit.. bought a darn camper that need some major rebuilding, so ALL my time has been on that. I forgot all about the forum!
Is the head still available? Have you made the trek to get it?
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Dennis, The head is still available, but I haven't made the 300 mile round trip to get it and other parts that other people want. Unfortunately, when Texas stay-at-home restrictions were relaxed (by our Moron Republican Governor) and I was planning to go, the pandemic flared up again very quickly with a vengeance. All the major cities in Texas, particularly Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin (all in the top 11 biggest cities in America) are near or at hospital capacity. Since I live in the San Antonio metro area and the parts are in the Houston metro area, and with my age and health history, I have no choice but to wait this out. I hate it. I can't even get to the parts that I need for my restoration, but once again, I won't take the chance. If you have a chance to get what you want, elsewhere, go for it. There is a guy in Montana, Bob Washburn, I think, that has a Waukesha head on EBAY, right now.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Hi, Terry...
No problem... Didn't want you to think I bailed on you, is all! No rush. When the time comes, if it's not available, I can always put mine back on. Swapping out later is no big deal. You can always send me an email mail, as well...not call. My phone is 2 three 1 eight 38 fifty five eighteen.
We went to Mackinac Island... A historical vacation island... No cars allowed, about 30 miles north of here, last week. The whole island, and all the shops, and ferry boat companies, all got on the same page and enforced social distancing, face masks, limited number of people in the store, ect. Amazing. Virtuallyd EVERYBODY was wearing a mask (except when seated to eat, etc).... And I didn't hear a SINGLE person complain ... Nobody was really inconvenienced. Quite impressive! It can be done!
Be safe! That's the important part!

I put a Giant Power head on my '25 a couple of years ago, and not impressed one bit. Perhaps, it improved performance by 1%.

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
I had a Simmons head (that I sold a few years ago at Chickasha) whose combustion chamber is almost identical to a Giant. Its combustion chamber was quite a bit smaller than a Waukesha Ricardo, so I'm surprised that the Giant didn't perform better than 1%. W-R heads aren't known to be high compression heads, but only offer better torque because of the chamber design. Still, I wish I'd never sold the Simmons.Original Smith wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 11:15 amI put a Giant Power head on my '25 a couple of years ago, and not impressed one bit. Hi Dennis,
If you are still looking for a low original head, I have one that I am willing to sell for $160 plus shipping. No visible cracks but did have a repair to the water jacket at the rear of the head long ago. Email me at DanielSnell2@twc.com

Dennis, I posted the above notice. I didn't have your phone number. Went this last Sunday 140 miles, one way to my parts. Did not hear from you, so didn't bring back head, Same story for another member wanting exhaust parts. I had his phone number but could never get him to answer. left his parts, too. Maybe you've found another head.

Oh, man.... I just got this, as I haven't been on for weeks. We got a vintage camper, and THAT became high priority. What a hot mess THAT was! Then my son got married 2 weeks ago!
I am sorry to have missed your trip! I hope it wasn't in vain, and was worth the trek! I think a PM might have gotten me....
The trans rebuild is right where I left it at least 2 months ago. .... And the head assymbly will follow. But now that the camper is useable, and my wife is happy, I can get back to it!
No... I haven't gotten another head, as yet, but I don't expect you to be making yet another trip any time soon. Regardless... If you happen to... My phone is two three one 330 fifty five eighty one. Email is Dennis at Bavarian Crafts dot com (no space be after Bavarian).
I wish you well!!

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Terry...
Just thought I'd let you know I have the beast all put back together, and on the road again. The head works great! Not a wiz-bang difference, but that wasn't what I was looking for. It now makes it up all the local hills I tried it on, so fslar, without dropping into low. PERFECT! I got one of Regan's magneto based speedometers that fireplaces the stock ammeter (and looks like it too), and can cruise at 40 without straining. That's pretty good, giving the weight of my pickup bed and travel trunk loaded with 'what-ifs'! Lol
Thanks again!
Dennis

It now makes it up all the local hills I tried it on, so fslar, without dropping into low. PERFECT! I got one of Regan's magneto based speedometers that fireplaces the stock ammeter (and looks like it too), and can cruise at 40 without straining. That's pretty good, giving the weight of my pickup bed and travel trunk loaded with 'what-ifs'! Lol
Thanks again!

Re: WTB cast iron high compression head
Great Dennis, I may be sorry that I sold it. Ha. Glad it worked for you.
