This the one the dealers sale for 98.95 was on the car just long enough to warm up the motor to retorque the head $75. Plus shipping also a tiger timer in the box was on the car for a couple of minutes trying different ones to see if there's any difference didn't see any $40. in the box plus shipping it's was N O S

Is the aluminum intake manifold you're selling a high volume one? Or is it a regular volume style? If it's a high volume, I would like to purchase it.

I think it's the high volume one but not sure I bought it from Chaffins there the makers of them some time ago just cleaning up time to move things not being used

Terry, to my knowledge, there has never been other than a high volume alloy manifold. There were even a few high volume cast iron ones on the change-over to the more restricted later cast iron ones.

It appears that "mtntee20" has purchased your manifold, so I can safely post this message. Not to hijack your thread, but I was going to post almost the same exact classified ad as yours sometime this week! What are the odds?!? I had virtually the same experience as you with the new aluminum high volume intake manifold. I installed it and drove the car around for about 20 minutes. I noticed no improvement. Perhaps at higher speeds it would have helped, but I rarely get above 35mph in town. No improvement at lower end. So, I will take a dollar loss and sell my virtually new intake for the same price as you. Remember, potential buyers: This is the aluminum high volume intake manifold with less than 1/2 running time. It is virtually brand-new.

A point to ponder: due to the increased physical size of those hi-volume intake manifolds, I have installed several over the years and in a couple instances, I had to grind down the intake due to interference with the exhaust manifold causing the manifolds not to seal properly using the original style glands & copper rings - you might visually verify the mating !

I think Marshall is right. A high volume intake, delivering more air and fuel mixture, isn't going to help or show a noticeable performance at low speed (below 35 MPH), but there are a lot of speedsters and owners who drive their cars on open highways and I've even seen one on an interstate, that need all the top end they can get. If you have a "need for speed", like to feel the wind in your hair, and have an engine with other performance improvements (high compression head, .280 cam or better, and an aftermarket carburetor, then you're going to benefit from a high volume intake. I have heard or read than in 1914, Ford offered one. It was cast out of cast iron, supposedly using the same mold as the 1913 aluminum intake was cast from. I have one of these and I have a Chaffin's aluminum high volume intake. I haven't measured, but the Chaffin's manifold looks to have larger passages than the 1914 iron manifold and the 1914 iron manifold is measurably larger than a traditional iron manifold. If I can find pictures of my iron manifold on my computer, I'll post pictures.

I have had to relieve two Chaffin's alloy manifolds to clear the exhaust manifold. There is plenty of meat there to do so, it just takes time. Material has to be ground off the top of the intake bends to get the manifold to sit correctly. Even then, you need to check that it is sitting square on the block. Not removing enough material will still leave the intake canted inwards away from the chassis rail.
