At what speed is it safe to downshift to low? For example we have a roundabout with a speed limit of 15 mph, it is a small one. Would I be able to take the roundabout in high with low rpm, or should I shift into low? I know this will be hard to answer, and I will probably know when I get there. Mayb...

They actually weren't designed to run on ethanol, but in 1907, just about everything was legal, and Henry Ford liked the idea of a farmer being able to make his own fuel from crop waste, which was do-able. Do you mount your muffler solid to the frame, or use some type of flexible hangar? Thanks

Re: Trash or Treasure
YES, it's worth holding on to! It can be rebuilt with new stove pipe. Thanks..that's what I was wondering. I have a hard time getting rid of anything, and I will look to rebuild it. It's for an earlier car than your '23. I'm certain there are a lot of folks who would gladly buy that from you! Thank...

Is this exhaust worth hanging on to, or just junk it? It is off my 23 Roadster, and I have a new system to install. Thanks..Tommy

Re: 23 Roadster Fuel Line
The most important thing about the route of the fuel line is, the line should slope up at each end with one low point between the two ends. Do not have a high point somewhere between the two ends because an air or vapor bubble can form and rise to that point then the fuel will stop flowing. It will...

23 Roadster Fuel Line
More about the fuel delivery than the line itself. I understand my 8N tractor, with gravity feed, and the fuel tank above the carb. However, at least on my T, if I run a line from the tank to the carb, the angle is downward, or at least level, which is a good thing. Going from the tank to the engine...

Re: 23 T New Crank Seal
Tommy, Please try what John is suggesting. In most of your "Petals" you can cut into two or a couple of them into three. That will as John says allow the seal to be formed into a more perfect circle. Don't know if you looked at the links that were shown. There are some examples there as well. If th...

Re: 23 T New Crank Seal
Tommy, Sorry to hear about your decision. It's so simple, easy and works so well to prevent an oil leak from the T. I have found that little oil drip up front around the crankshaft isn't like most of the other places some of us like to prevent. The problem up front is that oil dripping or running d...

You do realize you will need to unbolt the engine and lift it up high enough to slide the spring mount out to reverse it ? Also, make sure you relocate the mount & center the spring bolt. Re: 23 T Front mount
Looks like there is a nub on the backside of the front engine bearing mount that is on the frame, that is hitting the oil pan. Does this bearing have a front and back? I think, if I turn the mount 180 degrees it will work. Or, is the bearing just worn out? 0302211926a.jpg0302211926a (1).jpg Yes it ...

Re: 23 T Front mount
I have similar to that on the 2 26 T's I have and I don't have any gap. There should be some grease in there and it should be loose enough for the bearing on the front of the crankcase to move a little each way as the frame flexes. It should not be loose, but not too tight similar to a connecting r...

Now I am torn..I wouldn't need the pans, because I will only be out in good weather, and dry roads. But, if it aids in cooling then maybe it would be worth the effort.

Re: 23 Roadster starter pan?
Can you post a picture? Can do, but I will have to take a picture first... All Ford had shields on both sides of the engine even into the V8 era. Some say helps cooling some say doesn't (I think they help cooling myself). Does help keep the dirt down under the hood and good place to stop wrenches et...

23 Roadster starter pan?
Do all T's have a pan/shield under the starter? The one on mine goes from starter all the way to the front of the engine. It is fastened to the oil pan and to the hood shelf. I had to remove this pan to get the starter out, and it wasn't easy. I guess it is like a splash shield for the engine area. ...

Yes, there are different sizes. 28 PARTS 28.jpg Thanks for the info. Ford Service instructs and shows photo of cotter hole in the crank pulley pin, at the big hole end. Place the crank pulley pin into the large pulley hole, with the cotter hole of that pin up, facing the large pulley hole. That cot...

Re: 23T crank pulley pin
Took a look at mine today. My pin seems to be much shorter than the diameter of the pulley, and it is not tight. If it goes in tight, why do you need the cotter pin? Not sure what is incorrect with mine. Either the pin is too short, or the pulley is too large. Are there different size pulleys? I wil...

IMG_3836 copy.JPG Here's a picture of what Larry said. The parts are in poor condition, but they serve for illustration. Re: 23T crank pulley pin
The pin does fit tightly in the pulley. Many don't, and have to be knurled to fit properly. Don't mess with the small hole in the pulley. That is to keep the pin from coming out. The cotterpin in one end keeps the pin in place at the large hole end of the pulley. So, with the pulley removed, I shou...
