headlights with additional bulb question

I have a 24 roadster that has a set of headlights with a bulb on top of the reflector and a single wire running between them and up to the terminal block (disconnected). This is in addition to the high and low beam bulb.
I haven't been able to find any documentation about this setup.
Can someone tell me what this light is for and what to wire it to?

I hope this is what you are talking about.

In modern times these reflectors are rather atrractive as they allows you to make your headlight more compliant with current regulations.

You are right Rich.
To what do I connect the top bulb?
Low or high beam or does it matter?

Some Model As had that small bulb for a parking light.

The reflectors may be Model A reflectors.

I have never measured the model A lights to see if they are the same size.

I don't see any information. I would assume a separate wire was included in the wiring harness for these lights and a separate switch. I too have some of these lights and reflectors. Perhaps those cars had a light switch with a third position.

The set of these lights I've seen a number of years ago had a rather complicated socket/wiring & keeper assembly.

While it is true the model A has a SIMILAR set up as the T , however, they are not interchangeable......I know , because I tried this with a wonderful pair I bought from Dan Treace a couple years ago at Lurray swap meet. respectfully, John

Model A reflectors are very different; for one thing, they clip into the headlight bucket and are not spring loaded like the T ones. These are fairly uncomon, not being used very long. The upper bulb is actually a parking lamp bulb, but could be used (I suppose) as a "Low beam" bulb.
