Pan Jig Layout Dimensions

I am in the process of building a pan straightening jig.
Two files are attached of the hole pattern layout for a pan jig.

The first one is the Ford drawing of the long nose pan.
I made some red line markups to clarify the drawing for reference.
I also discovered an error in one of the dimensions.

The second one is a CAD drawing of the hole pattern with dimensions.
I deliberately over-dimensioned this drawing so I could verify the position of each hole against the Ford drawing.

Hope this is useful.

A few years ago, I had an opportunity to buy a circular piece of of plate steel about 1 1/4 " thick and 50" in diameter. It was new material left over from making some piece of machinery. I wish I had bought it.

AS the project progresses, I will add drawings for the false fourth main, the crank hole alignment pin and other details.

One heads up. Several years ago I built a pan jig from drawings off the forum, the nose holes were reversed. No big deal I have an extra couple of holes. But, I would suggest you lay out your holes, then set a pan on and check your layout before drilling. And a magnetic drill and and a tapping fixture really makes the table turn out nice.

Other Bob,

I reversed the layout to be correct for an upside down pan.

. The centering jig at the back is upside down for the picture but, this makes it easy to pull the pan into alignment. The plate was cut with a track torch. If I can help 903-824-1949 and no I won’t donate to the police officer fund.

I feel it’s very important to establish the center line and lay out every hole off of it.

Other Bob,

I like your setup for lateral movement of the pan tail.
I may steal that idea. :D

Mr Bob the idea is yours for the taking. It dose make getting the back of the pan correct, simple.

While we are on the subject
Bob how much overhang did you leave for the straightening jig at the back of the pan? I see the pan is 40-15/32. What ended up being the total length of the plate?
Thanks
Bryant

Bryant unfortunately my friend Bob Shirley is on permanent tour, such a loss to the family and his friends I miss him often especially when I’m trying to figure something T related out. However Bob Cascisa is active as can be.

Best John

Well, that is unfortunate and Iam sorry to hear that :(
I was looking for something exact, but I guess I could guesstimate before I order the plate steel.

Bryant,

I now own the Bob Shirley table. It's at my warehouse/shop but I will be up there tomorrow and can give you the dimension for the rear extension.

Bryant,

See below some additional photos of the pan alignment table. It's hard to see since the table is dirty, but on the rear adjustment plate (2nd photo)there is a small indexing mark for alignment with the centerline cut into the table. The plate is 42" in length and extends 2 1/4" past the rear of the pan.

Drew, so happy you are using the pan table Bob built. The actual last thing Bob did T related was straighten an early pan for a friend in northeast Mississippi after no one else would do it, he charged him $0.00 !
When the pan arrived back after completion it slid in perfectly aligned to the straightened frame. Bob said the pan was so crooked that it must have been owned by a politician. I miss Bob, one of the good guys. RIP.
