Transmission clutch Gap tool

The vendors are out of the gap tool I needed, so I tried using the correct size socket. It didn't work well so I made one out of stuff I had on hand. I decided to thread the plug and handle because my welding/brazing/soldering skills are marginal. I'm happy with the result.

Nice work. How's that saying..."necessity is the cause of invention" or something like that!

At my house growing up, the saying was “necessity is a mother.”

I don't have that kind of patience. Well done. I used a modern Ford wheel nut, 13/16" across the flats with a rod welded to it for a handle. I like the fact that the flats on the nut set the tool well, rather than having to organise it to sit at the correct angle in the gap.

Nice project. Following on Alan's point, it seems making the gage like RGould's from 13/16" round stock and using the diameter of the cylinder as the gage would work too.

I've never seen a tool like that. Looks like a very small mallet. Where and for what purpose is it used?

It's used to set the distance between the driving plate and the clutch throw-out collar.
