I don't know if videos of this had been posted before but I came across these last night and thought I would share a couple of the links. The standard inspection cover was changed out with a plexiglass one so you can see what is happening inside.

These next 2 show it with a filter screen and magnet installed. The first one is of the "standard" screen and the second one is a comparison with one that has been modified with larger holes. It seems as though the screen with the larger holes (increased flow rate) would allow more of the foreign material to stay in suspension in the oil and then be washed out and not caught by the screen. I don't think that I am a fan of that modification.

I guess I should clarify; I don't know if any
VIDEOS of this have been posted before? It does not look like that is the case, although there are previous threads on the topic that do include photographs.

Thanks Joe for re-posting. It is the first time that I have seen " IT " and it was great seeing the transmission in action.

So I looked at these again, and it seems that the screen does a better job of evenly distributing the oil across the length of the transmission. The unmodified screen looks like it starves the rear section of oil, but by drilling larger holes in the screen the oil flows more freely to the clutch area. Is there an optimal size and arrangement of screen holes to help the different sections of the transmission get the best amount of oil? Does his hole pattern deliver too much oil to the clutch area at the expense of the bands? And does the filtering of trash trump oil delivery?

Just this afternoon, changed the oil in Nellie the '23 cutoff. Part of each oil change is to pull the inspection cover and see what's in the oil screen. Mine is modified with larger holes (using a simple step-drill) and I do think it adds more oil to the bands that way. And the screen still does the clearing of stuff floating around just super.
Look closely and see the band springs under the larger holes.

That is more exciting if you leave the cover off and start the engine.
An old trick to play on new Model T owners.

Will it start better that way?

Remember that the transmission is still full of oil. If you drill too many large holes in the filter it does not filter as well anymore. I think the main purpose of the screen is to filter and not distribute oil farther to the back. To each his own.

It would be tricky to get the flow balanced and optimized for sure. I guess more flow is needed to the bands than to the clutch, and filtering out the trash is definitely desireable. Dan's modification looks pretty good to me...
