Re: Atkinson CFM article

Tim,
I believe that Wayne has moved back to Utah and is involved with A"s. You may want to post something on the Model A forum over on Fordbarn.
Someone from the "Salty A"s" should be able to get in touch with him,
Hope that helps,
Kevin

Re: Warford transmission bearings

Roger, I found the bearing cross reference here on the Forum. Yes there are two different size bearings, I don't remember which bearings are different, but what I did was pull the old bearings and get the numbers and then check them against the reference list. I was able to order all the bearings fr...

A search for 'KMC manifold" shows a similar kerosene manifold and carb.
Not sure what brand this one is but it sure looks like it was meant to burn kerosene.

Edwin, I went through one of these just a couple of years ago. Not that bad to rebuild but here are a couple of tips. The one I worked had been repaired and would not run at all, so the guy asked me to look at it. Make sure the plate is sealed on both sides, I purchased a new plate as they are alway...

Harry, I too purchased as set of plans as well as the iron kit from Dale. I built the body for a '24 chassis. I found a couple of small errors in the plans and made a couple of changes for ease of building. Dowling the subrails instead of half lapping, and then I made the curved front panels differe...

Re: Sealing Carburetor Passages….

Is it worth doing, with out a doubt. I don't drill out all the plugs but I make sure to drill out the ones that access every passage. I then spray carburetor cleaner through every passage. My chosen method of sealing is using 1/8" brass rod and peening them in place.

Re: OT - Better quality rattle can paint?

James, Yep I have used the Rustoleum brand cold galvanizing spray on a set of 21" rims. It worked great, dries very flat, but has a good look of bare galvanizing although without the "pattern" that sometime galvanizing has. I did it on a car that belongs to the local historical farm and so far it ha...

Re: OT - Better quality rattle can paint?

Mike, Not sure if you have Oriley's down there but I get VHT gloss black engine enamel there. It works great for small parts, if fuel resistant and hold up to 750 degrees if I remember right, dries relatively quick and has a good gloss. That way I can use it on pretty much anything from engine to ch...

Try Smokestack, and list it in the steam forum. You might get lucky, just be aware there were a lot of jobbers building engines, some with very limited production. Good luck, Kevin

Re: What type of final clear finish coat (shellac, varnish, urethane , epoxy) to put on top of Laurel Mountain Forge Che

Ok this may be akin to answering the age old question about what kind of oil to run in a Model T, but I'll take a stab at it. I am a hobby wood worker and built a York depot hack body for a '24 chassis. Urethane and epoxies certainly have a place where a very durable finish is needed, such as a tabl...

Re: Vaporizer Carb rebuild and or how to operate (car will not start!!)

Dave, Those are the diagrams I used. If you look at them you will see a couple of things that may make for hard starting. First is the choke shaft, the end of the choke shaft actually partially closes off a passage for free air at starting. Thus drawing more fuel. The second is the "air damper" make...

Dave, I am certainly no expert as I have only done one, but I will share what I learned. Having worked on a couple of Fordson vaporizers may have given me a bit of an advantage. First if you are going to rebuild it, remember everything has to be air tight. The fuel is drawn from the bowl up almost t...
