Finally got time to go check it some more. I first cleaned it with some acetone and then was able to get the tip of a Babbitt bearing scraper to make some scratches. Do to the silver color I am pretty sure it’s a babbit thrust washer. Looks like I need to plan to remove and rebuild the rear axle

I took mine to American metal cleaning in Portland. Have not had any issues with it since they cleaned it. Cost 75$ in 2003.

With the help of a friend we have built a prototype based on TL431 design I posted. More details to come. We have been bench testing and hope to test in a car soon. Looks promising

Do you use lock washers or self locking nuts? The bolts I have the threads look good so I’m thinking they were used with lock washers.

Help identifying alum pistons

These pistons came out of motor that was rebuilt in the 60’s. No identifying makes other than “184” on the inside lip. Has strange relief around the wrist pins. Should I reuse them?

I think the 3rd main was getting a lot of metal shavings. Here’s the coil after the motor was pulled. I don’t think I had many miles left.

How much can you safely remove from the mains? Mine currently mics at .020 undersize. It’s a EE crank. I think(hope) it should clean up at .025 under. Is that good or look for another crank. Rear axle oil seals

I replacing the rear tires on my 26 touring. It has wire wheels. And see that one seal leaked pretty bad so was going to replace both outer seals. But should I also do the inner seals?

Scott, thanks for sharing your information. My car has always run rich and had issues with the float not wanting to always shut off the gas flow. I’m going to swap mine and see if it helps things

I believe what I have in the photo is a tool for testing magneto voltage. But no matter which way I connect it the gauge goes down below zero. Both the small and large are at the bottom with no extra capped holes on the top. Is it easier to undo the bolts by the u/joint housing and rotate or the bolts on the rearend? Either way the radius rods will have to be loosened and possibly removed. Or should I just drill a hole on the top. My plan ...

John thanks for the help. I put a metal straight edge on my pan and it looks everywhere I check. I’ve attached a photo. Also what’s the width suppose to be from hole to at the mounting arms. This pan is 22” but the frame and old motor are 21.5”.
