The tight tops shown on the cars are the way tops should look. Tops with pulls, sags, etc. are not made right or installed right. I did upholstery on collector cars for 35 years and made and installed many tops. Getting them to look right was very difficult.

I used to do upholstery on collector cars. A seat like that would be easy to make. Hey guys, look at the numbers. Water has better heat dissipation than a water - antifreeze mix, so straight water cools better. However, when it gets cold water freezes so in some areas the mix may be a good choice. A water - antifreeze mix may have a higher boiling point than straight water, but no...

For durability I would use leather. I did upholstery on collector cars for 30 years, or so. Vinyl looks good when new but does not hold up as well as leather does, and does not feel as good on hot or cold days. The extra cost should be quite small but the quality difference will be large.

After driving your car park it and put the brake handle all the way forward. This will put the car in high gear and force the oil from between the clutch plates. This will minimize drag when starting the car and tend to eliminate any forward creep when starting the car.

It looks to me as if it is a two hand lever car, which would make it a 1909. However, I have been wrong before.
Tom, I appreciate all the early photos you post. Thank you.

Re: Wanted to Buy, 1917 Coupelet or 1918 Coupe ONLY!!!
Such cars do exist. Russ Furstnow has one he has started restoring. A friend of mine has one, which he is not interested in selling. Walt needs to keep looking for the car he wants. He does not want a coupelet with a folding top. He wants a 1917 or 1918 with a solid top and removeable door posts, wh...

Re: How to do a roadster top wrong
On a 1920 touring the top install is difficult. To keep the rear bow in place and the other bows vertical you need to cut some wood. Determine where you want the rear bow and cut 2 pieces of wood that will go between the top of the rear seat and the bottom of the rear bow. Then cut pieces of wood to...

After Pearl Harbor was also bad for many Japanese-Americans. Yesterday I had lunch with a few school classmates, all of us born in 1941-1942. My friend Ted Masumoto was there. We talked with him about the years after Pearl Harbor. In the relocation of Japanese-Americans his father, a farmer, was giv...

I just looked at the photos of the centerdoor in the auction. It does not have the one piece rear section of the 1915 centerdoor but the 3 piece rear section typical of the 1916 and later centerdoors. It also does not have the 3 piece windshield of the 1915, and it does not appear, to me, to have th...

Water Wetter does work. I used it on my 1974 Pantera. They are notorious for overheating when idling, but I could let idle in my driveway in the summer sun for 30 minutes with no overheating.

I put in somewhere between a pint and a quart. The oil level is about 1 inch below the fill plug. It is difficult to know exactly how much I installed as the container is opaque.

Pleasant surprise yesterday
Yesterday we pulled the rear end from my 1916 coupelet that I bought one year ago. The car was restored in the 1970s or 1980s and I wanted to check to see if the thrust washers were babbit or bronze. It turns out they were bronze, the outer grease seals were the modern neoprene type, and it looked a...

How I unexpectedly bought a 1916 coupelet
It began in 1962 when I purchased my first Model T, a 1926 Tudor sedan, fully restored, for $ 475. It was my daily driving car in Seattle. Shortly after the Model T came Floyd Clymer’s book “Henrys Wonderful Model T”, which taught me about coupelets. It became a dream of mine to own one someday. In ...

Look at reflections of one of your fingers in the glass very closely. If there is one reflection it is plate glass. If there are 2 reflections it is safety glass. Or just take a hammer to it and then it will be easy to tell.

The coupelet body was found in the hills above Spokane in 1974. There was no chassis with it. It is a 1916 because the turtledeck lid is on the top, not the rear. The person who found it restored it as a 1915, which is why it has brass trim on the lights and no porthole windows in the top. I like th...
